Intel NUC 11/2/2019 8:06:05 AM

Pros: Set up quick, worked great, takes up very little space, installed 8 GB Ram and 120 GB SSD.

Cons: Lasted 20 months and the lan adapter quit working,I can no longer stream content, has a 3 year warranty so I will see if Intel Corp will replace it.

Overall Review: Worked good while it lasted.

Not for an HTPC 9/7/2019 9:05:01 AM

Overall Review: Sadly, after trying 2 different Celeron-powered minis like this I've come to the conclusion that the absolute minimum CPU for an HTPC role is an i3. If you're looking for compact hardware to use as an HTPC this is not it.

Failed way too fast 11/24/2018 4:27:35 PM

Pros: - Does everything its supposed to.
- Works great as an HTPC for movies, music and YouTube
- Works well with Linux

Cons: Didn't work for long. First, the on-board ethernet card just disappeared after 6 months. I had to replace it with a USB ethernet adapter. Then 10 months after that the on-board audio card and graphics card started glitching hard, requiring a reboot several times a night. Intel customer support was most unhelpful.

Overall Review: This product does not seem to be reliable. Would not recommend.

Great for small business/office 11/7/2018 9:09:05 AM

Pros: Needed replacement computer to connect to terminal server, on a budget in small business/office. Runs WIN10 x64 fine. Never meant to be power house gaming computer. Only needs 4Gb ram for my needs. Crucial DDR3L1866 (CT51264BF186D from Newegg). PNY CS900 120Gb SSD is overkill. Much less heat and cost than my i3 NUC (which is also a nice business computer). Great for basic computing as well. Like the built in bluetooth feature for moving documents from a tablet to this computer to then move to my server.

Cons: I wish Intel (or any other Mobo maker for that matter) would include a small USB with basic drivers and URL to product page. The audio drivers are on Intel.com. Not too hard to find the product there to get the drivers.

I took an egg off the rating because I was getting screen flickering shortly after I got it up and running. After a day of messing around, found out it was a known issue with an OLD BIOS. MUST GO TO INTEL.COM PRODUCT PAGE GET THE BIOS UPDATE PROGRAM, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS TO THE LETTER. The BIOS update tool worked fine but I always hold my breath when doing that. But that solved every glitch/issue I had.

Overall Review: I had a larger box computer, got messed up by hurricane. I have limited desk space, this thing is soo small the portable CD/DVD player takes up more desktop space, BUT, that was something else I needed to buy for this computer to install my WIN10. For those who had issues with M.2, it is actually easy to put in once you figure out how. The instructions in the box on how were poor, but Im not using M.2 with this processor, no point. SATAIII SSD is just fine for what this box can handle. BSOD issues are a WIN10 problem (it always seems to recover from it) but with WIN10 updates those stopped too.

Two system, one DOA the other died after recommended BIOS upgrade 8/9/2018 1:14:48 PM

Pros: Small, low power, energy efficient.

Cons: They both had issues. One turns on and then off after a minute. no video. The second would not install Linux. The system died during a recommended BIOS update.
UPDATE
After several hour of troubleshooting with INTEL, they declared them defective under warranty. I took the $25 option and had them preship me replacements. I got lost in there process and had to call back and wait for someone to complete the order. Another two hour. When they did arrive one was DOA and the other will not allow me to call up the BIOS after I switched the boot setting to LINUX. Waste of $25.

Overall Review: At this time, I would not recommend the product.

Has been solid for about a year 4/22/2018 2:57:47 PM

Pros: -Has been serving solidly as a Plex/backup box for about a year
-Solid CPU that can cover most server related tasks for 1-2 users
-Great power consumption
-8GB RAM maximum will probably be more then enough for anything done on this box

Cons: -As far as I can tell, there is no way to get an M.2 SSD on there, so storage space wise you are limited to a single 2.5 HDD connected via SATA

Overall Review: I upgraded to this from a pretty old foxconn netbox and use it as a server for Plex, hosting a website, backups, etc. I am pretty impressed with the CPU in this machine, as I've found it to be sufficient to render blu ray remux quality sources remotely through Plex with no hiccups aside from occasional network problems that come with streaming such a high bitrate video. I would probably consider this the baseline CPU for building a modern NAS type device. In the end however, I will probably be selling this and building a more sophisticated NAS system with much more room for expansion as my capacity needs have increased quite a bit since I started running this. I feel like support for an M.2 ssd would've been good as it would have enabled me to hold off a little longer on building a larger capacity system, but get why this is difficult given the space crunch on the device.
