Could I use this cpu in my computer? I have a LGA1156 processor socket; Intel core i3 530; Power supply 300w

Accepted Answer

The short answer, unfortunately, is no. Although this is a fine dual core processor with excellent onboard graphics, the i3-4130 is incompatible with the LGA 1156 socket & will necessitate using a motherboard with the LGA 1150 socket.

Question 2

Is it possible to deactivate the integrated graphics in favor of installing a video card?

Yes, assuming your motherboard supports the option in the BIOS. Not every BIOS has that option, but if your's doesn't it's not really a huge deal; you just plug the video cable into your dedicated graphics card and it will display from there automatically.

You might use a few extra watts of power and you'll have a few drivers installed that you'd prefer you didn't, but functionality-wise the to cards don't conflict at all.

I have a dell demension4400 .
will this be a cpu upgrade for my pc??
I really think I need to upgrade My Old CPU.

Your Dimension 4400 has an older generation single core Pentium 4 running at 1.6GHz. If you were to build a new system with this processor, a minimum of 4 Gb (8 is better) of DDR3 memory, a new motherboard, and a new SATA 3 hard drive, then it would seem like going from a bicycle to a sports car. You could build a new system if you are reasonably handy, though there would be little to nothing that you would be able to salvage from your old Dell so you'd be buying everything new.

There are always deals on complete systems, though you don't always get the best or fastest parts in them but it may still serve your needs well. It really depends on what you are looking for as anything from the current generation of PC's and processors will seem like a huge boost compared to what you have now. Spend some time figuring out what you want it to do with it so that you don't over-buy something that may be powerful and expensive but may also be overkill if all you use your PC primarily for is to browse the web, email, and do some light gaming.

will this run 1080p?

I assume you are referring to games that contain 3D computer graphics.  If so, it will only do the most basic 3D games at 1080p.  Even the least powerful of the current generation of graphics cards will outperform the on-chip graphics of this CPU.  Otherwise, a great processor.  This generation of desktop CPUs are very responsive.  I actually have three of this series of i3 processors and one Pentium as well.  Best processors I've ever had for the price.

Can this CPU overclock? If so, how much can it overclock ?

Only chips with a K at the end of the model number can be easily overclocked. There is currently no i3 that has this, only the Pentium, i5, and i7 families currently have K chip options.

Question 6

I have a Dell OPTIPLEX 755, would this work for my computer?

If the Dell Optiplex is all original parts then no, this CPU will not fit.  The 755 is Intel Socket 775 which housed the Core 2 Duo lineup of CPU's.  You would be much better off building a new PC but this processor is a good start.

Yes... socket 1150 chip for socket 1150 motherboard.  Get appropriate memory and you won't have a problem.

Question 8

Does anyone know what the safe operating temperature range is for this processor?

It's installed in a new build on an Asus Z87-Pro MB.

I have not run any kind of extensive CPU intensive testing.  However, during movie playback 3d Mark benchmark testing, I didn't see a temp above 35 C.

Using this with an EVGA cooler in a cougar mini-ATX case.

Make sure you apply your silver paste correctly and that the CPU cooler you have chosen is properly attached and I wouldn't expect to see above 55C on this processor.  If you're seeing temps above that, I would re-examine your thermal paste and that the processor fan is running.

Because I know it is LGA1155 but it doesn't say 4th generation or does it "have to bee" a 4th generation processor?

The selected MSI board is an 1150 socket and the I3-4130 Haswell is a 1150 PGA.
Should work.

Question 10

Is the integrated graphics in this processor enough to run WoW on max settings? I really dont play alot of games, but I do play WoW from time to time, and if I could play it with this on ultra, without paying extra for a VGA, I would be very pleased, and would buy it in an instance.

Sorry don't know how WOW performs. The only pc games I play are kotor 1 & 2. The 4400 is able to max out the AA and AF running at 1280x960. Start to see some frame drops at higher resolutions, and these are older games so you might need to drop WOW's settings to high or medium. Another big issue for me is this IGP has screen tearing with downloaded videos. Mp4 and WMV in particular. I added a discrete card an the issue went away so heads up if you watch lots of videos.
