Will this work with a gigabyte h110m-a motherboard?

According to Gigabytes webiste this will work with your mobo.

I was going to link to the gigabyte site to show you the list but Newegg will not let me post links.  If you google search your Mother Board model number you should find the manufacturers spec page, then go to support and click on the supported cpu list to look it up.

I that is all I can tell you, but since it is listed on their supported CPU list it should have been tested and the bios should recognize it, however since it is new you may have to update your bios to the most recent version.  Hope this helps!

thermal paste included? if not do i need it?

It comes with the default CPU cooler with pre applied thermal paste. So yes it is included and ready to install. Thermal paste is a necessity for cooling, unless you want your CPU explode :)

Can this processor be overclocked at all?

Yes it can, slightly.
My ASUS TUF Z270 MARK 1 tuned the BCLK from 100.0 Mhz to 102.5 Mhz, with CPU Core Ratio's 38/37/36/36.
I successfully pushed the BCLK to 102.9 Mhz. It does not POST after 103.0 Mhz. 
Notably, Speccy shows the BCLK reaching 103.0 Mhz still.

What's the difference between this, and i3-8100?

The number of cores mainly. with an i5 you will be able to run more programs at the same time and get a faster response time. Same with the i7. The actual model number doesn't really matter. You could get the 6500 and it would perform the same as the 7500.

Yes, it would depend on your motherboard though, you can check what motherboard you are using and see if it supports your cpu and your ram speed

Is the stock fan any good?

It's only useable if you only plan on using it as a basic workstation. If you do plan on running any thing heavy such as video editing, gaming, or other things I would definitely recommend getting a after market heatsink. If you have about $35 to spare and enough room in your case the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo is a very popular choice amount the community for air blown coolers.

will this work with a h170 asrock motherboard?

Possibly. The 170 series MB's may need a bios update to run the Kaby Lake CPU's. Your best bet is to check with ASRock and see what they say. It would be helpful to give you a better answer if I knew which H170 MB you were talking about. ASRock makes about 13 models with the H170 chipset. Sorry I can't be more precise, but at best you are going to need a bios upgrade to run this chip I think. Check with ASRock, they can tell you for sure, and where to get the bios update if they have one.

Will this CPU work with Ubuntu Linux 18.04?.....above it is stated it only works with win 10

I ran Ubuntu 18.04 in a virtual box on windows 10 on this cpu with no issues.  I'm pretty sure Ubuntu supports most x86_64 processors.
