Does this come with a fan?

Yes, it comes with a fan. It is the standard Intel CPU fan that comes with most Intel CPU fans. If you have an Intel CPU now with the stock fan installed, it is probably very similar. It will keep you CPU cool enough if you operate the CPU without overclocking it or Turbo mode. When I operated it in Turbo mode, I felt the fan did not keep the CPU cool enough even thou it was within specifications for temperature. I did replace the standard Intel CPU fan with a Noctua NH-D14 fan which I think is much, much better. Be careful if you decide to upgrade to this fan, it is extremely huge. Make sure you have the front, rear, and side clearance. Check the Noctua website for compatible hardware such as CPU's, MB, etc.

Does the stock heatsink come with thermal paste pre-applied or do I need to order some?

It comes with some applied, but it is very low quality and will degrade significantly over a very shot period of time. In my experience removing the pre-applied thermal paste with a coffee filter and some rubbing alcohol  and adding a pea sized amount of arctic silver 5 right in the center of the cpu will ensure you aren't re- applying thermal paste 13 -14 months down the line because this stuff dried up on you and your temperatures are suddenly soaring high. Yes, pretty much all CPUs come with some form of thermal paste pre-applied to the fan that comes in-box. You shouldn't need to purchase your own.

I have been looking around for a good CPU that would tolerate both gaming and graphically intensive tasks like photoshop or video editing.  Would this be a good CPU for those kinds of things?  I'm doing my first ever computer build and just trying to make sure I am looking in the right places for the parts.  Thanks in advance!

I think it would serve both of those purposes well. I have not done a lot of Photoshop stuff with it but I do play the newest and greatest games and love to put them on Ultra settings. I have not had a problem with it and I always have my games, webpages, team speak and a in game video recorder going at the same time. Been a great CPU for me so far.

It does, but it's relatively cheap. I actually replaced mine w/ liquid cooling. The system runs very, very cool that way, but I have never run it w/ the default fan that was supplied.

I am looking at building a new rig for gaming/programming/game design. I am not sure to go with a i7-4771 or a i7-4770k? I know they are both awesome CPUs, so this makes it so much harder. Any help would be appreciated.

Since you are into gaming, you are probably interested in the ability to overclock the CPU as needed. i7-4771 cannot be overclocked. i7-4770k can be overclocked. Generally anything ending in 'k' for the Core i series has the ability. You will also need a motherboard with the Z87 chipset to do it.

If you are not interested in overclocking, getting an i7-4771 with a H87 chipset motherboard is fine. You could put it on a Z87 as well but you will be paying more for the motherboard.

Does anybody know what heatsink this comes with?

This is a boxed processor unit from Intel, so it comes with the chip and the factory heatsink/fan assembly.  Unless you plan to overclock it, nothing else special is needed, as long as you have the proper motherboard and enough air circulation in the tower.

I am using this CPU with the Asus Mini ITX DDR3 1600 LGA 1150 Motherboard MAXIMUS VI IMPACT.  I am using Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000) Desktop Memory Model PV316G213C1KBL for memory.  So check your motherboard for recommended memory.  Hope that helps.
