Will this need a bios update if running on a z390 motherboard?

Depends on the mainboard you choose. You will need to research the board you want and find out if it will support it out of the box. I recently bought this cpu, and a ROG Strix Z390H from Asus. Worked out of the box. But having other warm boot issues with the board, not cpu related.

Yes, I have the same board and last month I installed the 9900kf into the cpu socket. It's working great! I'm using a Corsair H150i Pro with thermal grizzly kryonaut paste to keep it very cool.

Why does the Intel Core I9-9900KF cost more than the Intel Core I9-9900K when the "KF" sku actually provides less product for the money? Why would anyone buy the the 9900KF when the 9900K can be purchased for less? Even if you don't need the integrated graphics, it wont hurt anything to have it on the chip and not use it, plus, the 9900K with integrated graphics allows for the choice of using Intel Quick Sync ( which uses the integrated graphics ) for h264 encoding with programs like Handbrake without bogging down the CPU cores.

Newegg in no way is in charge of setting the MSRP that is provided by the manufacturer. I would largely agree with you that it doesn't make much sense to buy this CPU over the 9900K for reasons that have already been expressed, I feel this feedback should be directed to Intel since Newegg is not the only retailer selling this CPU at a higher price than the 9900K (I checked Amazon, Fry's Electronics and B&H Photo, all the same/similar pricing).

Retailers do have control on pricing on selected products, but we don’t have control over the cost on the product which ultimately determines the selling price.

Are these Core i9-9900KF CPU's the new R0 stepping?

Hello,

Unfortunately there is no way to confirm if the unit we ship will be the R0 Stepping version unless it is listed on the page.  Intel did not specify if all KF SKUs will be shipped with the R0 Stepping revision so there is not real way to tell without installing it first.

Seeing as the KF SKU is newer I would expect it to be the revised version of the Coffee Lake architecture, I would confirm with Intel if they ship all the 9900KF CPUs with R0 stepping since I am sure this would be much harder to confirm for the older refresh models of the 9900K since the original 9th Gen lineup did not come with R0 stepping.

Will this work with an Asus Maximus X Hero motherboard? Currently using an 8700K with the latest bios. I can overclock the 8700K to 4.7 with auto voltage and no overheating at all. I looked at the Hero XI and they say it's a 4 phase so that's out. It would have to work with what I have now, thanks.

Thank you for contacting us in regards to your question. The Asus Maximus X Hero motherboard lists to support the 9th generation processor with a Bios update. However, you may need to update the BIOS to one of the more recent BIOS or the latest available for use with the KF model.
