New technology

Pros: Works well, no drivers required for I7-7700 and Z170X-Gamiming 7. Boots in just a few seconds (takes longer to get through BIOS than to load Windows 10).

Cons: Wrote a long review on this, Newegg didn't post it.

Other Thoughts: More write endurance than other SSD (MLC,"TLC" which is really 8-level cell)

Edit 5-30-19:
I see that there may be negative reviews on the M.2 version not supporting PC booting. I am using the AIC (Add-In-Card), PCIe version of this item. I have no experience trying to get a computer to boot from M.2, perhaps this is related. The following Wikipedia page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M.2) explains some of the Features of M.2, perhaps there's a configuration option in BIOS to force booting through PCIe on M.2 rather than defaulting to SATA?

I have never seen a manual for a motherboard which clearly defined all the BIOS functions and features, and have spent HOURS fiddling and poking with settings, in order to get a system booting reliably. I even had a motherboard that advertised support for Kaby Lake, but you needed to boot Skylake in order to flash to a new BIOS before Kaby Lake would boot (thanks a lot, G***byte)! I feel sorry for folks who didn't know that, or didn't have an old processor kicking around the junk bin *end of rant*.

Much Faster Than Sata SSD

Pros: My first Sata SSD was a lot faster than my HDD. All following SSDs were about the same as the first.
This drive is that much faster. Going from Sata SSD to NVME Optane is like HDD to Sata SSD.
The Samsung Evo Pro is reviewed as faster sequential read/write for things like loading one large file, but the 900P is reviewed as much better for random read/write for copying lots of small files or maybe a large file that is seen as lots of small files.
Watching Windows install was not like watching paint dry. For medium installs like Chrome, there is essentially no wait time. For program loading, the wait is never eternal, even for big ones.
My system boots in 5 seconds with slow boot on. I have gotten in the habit of turning it off when I am not using it.

Cons: There are no cons. Though you could say price is still a bit high. If they lowered the price, wouldn't Samsung then lower their price too? Neither of them would make money, resulting in less R&D money for the next round. So, to me, the price is understandable for bleeding edge.

Other Thoughts: When the price does eventually come down, I plan on getting whatever Optane drive is available in an m.2 version of around 500 GB to 2 TB.

Super Fast Drive

Pros: - Super fast drive
- Easily plugs in available PCIEx4 slot
- No power cord or other connectors required
- Newer Gigabyte Motherboard found card and used as Boot Drive without issue

Cons: - Server I tried to install would not use this SSD as the Boot Drive as it was an older server
- a bit expensive per gig but in my opinion worth the investment

Other Thoughts: Great product. Awesome design and packaging. I like this better than M.2 drives as I have had a few of those fail recently. Highly recommend

Appears to be an upgrade from the NVMe drives of 2015

Pros: Looks pretty, but Windows won't install. $360 data drive only.

Cons: Windows kicks out an error message saying that it cannot be installed on this disk. The computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu. There's no place to upload a screen shot here of the message I got. ASUS told me there's no particular setting in the BIOS of the WS x299 PRO/SE motherboard to enable this as a system drive. I originally got this message with an evaluation copy of Windows 10 Enterprise, but after tinkering for a bit was able to use this as a system partition. I am now trying to install a licensed copy of Windows Home on this drive and this message kicks out. I deleted the old partition and have 260 GB of unallocated space on the drive . However, it appears I can't use this as a system drive even though I was successful at installing the evaluation copy on it. ASUS told me to take my plight to Intel so hopefully they'll see this review and post a response. Until then I'm going to have to get out my Google fingers and burn up the Internet with this error message.

Other Thoughts: Didn't have this problem with the original HHHL NVMe drive back in 2015. Unfortunately that's in another computer. If I knew I was going to run into this snag I would have imaged my drive, transferred it to a SATA SSD, and re-purposed the NVMe drive for my new build and would have forgone buying this drive with its $360 price tag. So to anybody buying this drive you are going to be doing a lot of research on how to use it for a system drive as you can buy a much cheaper data drive.

Manufacturer Response:
There are a few requirements that need to be met to boot off of PCIe NVMe SSDs, including Motherboard hardware/drive connector support and booting into UEFI. See the Installation Guide (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000027198/memory-and-storage.html) for more information. Works on Supermicro x9sae-v motherboard and Debian Linux

Pros: Easy to install, showed up instantly in my Debian disk manager. On this particular motherboard, you can use this drive as a data drive, but not a boot drive. I was able to get 1.5-2.5GB/sec transfer speeds in a linux benchmark. Does work on older systems providing they have EFI support.

Cons: I can only fit 6 of them inside my system.

Other Thoughts: Our servers needed something to backup about 60GB from our main RAID, once per hour, without using spinning rust. The main RAID consists of Intel DC 3710 SSDs. Because of the high endurance of these drives (5+Pb), we should have no problem using it in this way for at least 5 years running.

Great SSD

Pros: It's a blazingly fast drive, I haven't done benchmarks on it but going from an Intel Cherryville SSD, Windows 10 basically boots the moment I hit the power button.

Vastly increases the performance of a pagefile, which is great in a world where RAM is extremely expensive. (more expensive than this drive is, funnily enough)

Heatsink does well at keeping the drive cool. Not too many people monitor their drive temps, but those temps are important, do affect performance, and the heatsink does a good job at managing them without being a bulky mess.

Cons: Takes up a whole PCIE slot. Needs a M.2 2280 version.

Other Thoughts: I bought the drive as I was curious just how much a "bleeding edge" SSD would improve computer usage. Like many reviewers of this device have said before, being a light consumer, this drive just doesn't really see proper use. It's a niche drive. I knew that before I bought it, but I figure everyone else should too.

Not sure why this is advertised as a gaming drive. Unless your computer is running out of RAM and being forced to page gaming assets to this drive, then it probably won't help performance. Additionally, load times are a direct function of sequential read/write speeds, which is why the load times on my Samsung 960 EVO are actually a bit better than this drive's.

The new solid state king

Pros: This is the fastest drive you can buy for random read/write performance. 10x the random read speed of my 600p.

The endurance rating of this drive is an order of magnitude higher than traditional solid state drives. You can overwrite this drive 10x365x5 = 18,250 times under the warranty, while most other options are in the 100's of drive writes.

The build quality is very nice. This definitely feels like a premium product. Even the packaging was premium.

Either you have a specific use for this drive or you're an enthusiast with some money to spend. If you're looking for the best VALUE, then go buy a 600p, WD Black, 850 EVO etc. I bought this drive knowing that it was absolute overkill, and you should be aware of this too. You are paying almost $1.40 per GB, so be sure this is what you want.

Cons: Sequential performance is very fast, but might be edged out by the 960 series from Samsung. If you care about sequential performance more than random (i.e. you don't know anything), then go buy a 960 EVO and call it a day. Your parents wouldn't want you to spend this much of their money anyways.

Very expensive. Reminds me of SSD prices 5-6 years ago, but you have to pay to play.

Other Thoughts: Mine came with a Star Citizen code that is apparently quite valuable. This can offset some of the upfront cost, but I don't know how long it will last.
