Lenovo Chromebook 500e Gen 5 M89 Chromebooks MediaTek Kompanio 540 4 GB Memory 12.2" Yes ChromeOS 500e Gen 5 M89

The Lenovo Chromebook 500e Gen 5 M89 is a 12.2-inch ChromeOS 2-in-1 with a MediaTek Kompanio 540 processor, 4 GB of memory, and a 1920 × 1200 touchscreen, suited to students and everyday users who want a compact device for web-based work and flexible touch use.

Recommended For

• K–12 students moving between school and home who mainly use browser-based classwork, online lessons, and assignments, and want a compact convertible built for everyday school handling.
• Students who want to switch between typing and touch-based work, such as annotating lessons or writing notes; the 12.2-inch touchscreen supports convertible use, while the USI 2.0 pen is optional.
• Schools and IT teams equipping students with managed ChromeOS devices, where fleet enrollment, repairability, and classroom-oriented durability matter.

Real-World Use Scenarios

• For schoolwork, a student can move between browser-based assignments, Google Classroom, and a video lesson; Kompanio 540 testing on another Chromebook found these kinds of classroom apps remained usable together, though this model’s 4 GB of memory is better suited to a modest number of open tabs than heavy multitasking.
• For reading digital textbooks or browsing lessons at a desk, the 360-degree hinge lets the Chromebook switch from laptop to stand or tablet mode; the touchscreen supports touch navigation, and a compatible USI Pen 2 can be purchased separately for handwriting or drawing.
• For everyday web tasks—checking email, researching online, and writing in browser-based documents—it offers a compact ChromeOS setup; it is a better fit for these routine tasks than demanding desktop software or keeping many memory-heavy apps open at once.
• For a class presentation or study session at a desk, it can connect to an external display through HDMI or USB-C, making it possible to show work on a larger screen while using the Chromebook as the main device.
• For a break between assignments, it can handle typical Chromebook entertainment such as streaming video in a browser; Lenovo lists stereo speakers, while the viewing experience can also be used in stand or tablet mode.
