Does the scroll wheel physically click, or does it just slide freely?

The scroll wheel, while not locked in infinity scroll, has a gentle ratchet feel and sound as you scroll. Pressing the middle mouse down has a meaty click feel like a button. Clicking left or right has a lighter almost left mouse click sound and feel to it. The middle mouse button is also much improved over the original G502 and has withstood many clicks and feels the same as it did after purchase.

I'm looking for a replacement for my old G700s due to its left click becoming unreliable after about five years of otherwise excellent service. What I liked most about it was how customizable all of its buttons were, as well as the sheer amount. I thought this might be a good replacement, but it appears to only have three left side buttons compared to the G700s's four, and I read that its mouse wheel left and right tilt functions can't be custom mapped at all.

I could deal with having only three left side buttons if that is indeed the case, but not being able to remap the left and right wheel tilts is a deal breaker. I'm very used to giving the wheel tilts custom functions on my ol' G700s in everything from games to Photoshop, so that's my biggest question. I haven't seen many people point that issue out though, so I just want to be extra sure: Can the wheel left and right tilt inputs be remapped or not?

I'm using the G502 with Logitech Gaming Software and the left and right mouse wheel tilts are just as customizable as any of the other buttons. I bought the G502 to replace an old G500 and I've found it to be capable of and compatible with everything I did with the G500. Including a whole bunch of custom AutoHotkey mouse scripts that I couldn't live without at this point.

About the left side buttons, you're right that there are only three on the G502. It's also worth noting that the layout is more spread out when compared to your G700s. I had the same issue when moving on from the G500 (very similar layout to your G700s) and I wasn't sure I was going to like the G502 at first, but for what it's worth, it didn't take long to get used to the G502's layout and I actually hadn't thought about it since last year until I started answering your question. Though there is something more ergonomic about the layout and, what's more, it allows for larger buttons which all but rules out misclicks.

Via the Logitech Gaming Software, required, that you download from the website.  At bottom, next to the 'house' icon, there is an icon of a Mouse with a dip-chip, click that to access the action assignment page to set the various buttons and scroll wheel.

This is the only mouse with a scroll wheel that has tilt actuated buttons as well as additional left click buttons that can be re-mapped.
If you're not used to a mouse with lots of buttons everywhere this isn't for you.  If you are an advanced gamer who has mastered the mouse there is no other option than the G502 because of how much better the mouse wheel is than anything else on the market.  It is the only mouse with left/right tilt actuation on the scroll wheel AND the addional 2 buttons adjacent to the left click (which should never ever be left on DPI switching and always remapped).
