Does this remote use wifi to control an HTPC or does the computer need IR capability?

No, I have my pc connected to my home theater system. Your pc would be connected to your tv screen with hdmi cable or how ever capable for sound and video. Then your Logitech remote would be programed for pc play as one of your settings. You still need to turn on the pc by hand and the remote would connect the settings to use HT, by turning your tv screen and sound system on to the correct settings, for pc theater play. You still need to use mouse and keyboard with your pc, and pc connected to wired modem or wireless connected to your modem!

newegg says it handles5 devices, Logitech site says it handles 8 devices, which is correct?

I only use 4 devices, but I just went to the web-based remote control setup utility and tried to add a 5th and 6th device just to see what it would do.  I added the 5th OK, but when i tried to add the 6th, it booted me back to the login screen... I tried it repeatedly with the same results.  It's possible that with the PC-software someone else may have better luck.

Assuming that you are looking at the same sales item that I bought for ~$74, it was definitely a NEW item. (Completely sealed package with no evidence of prior use....no evidence of having been previously programed.)

Does this remote work with smart TV's and as a sound bar remote volume controller?

CAN'T SPEAK TO THE SOUND BAR BUT YES ON SMART TVS, MINE WILL RUN MY AV RECEIVER CABLE BOX, TV AND THE BLURAY PLAYER, NOT A BIG FAN OWING TO THE TIMES IT DOES ONLY 2 OUT OR 3 DEVICES AND YOU GO THROUGH THE "PROBLEM " PROTOCOL, WHILE THAT ALWAYS WORKS HAPPENS WAY TO MANY TIMES

It doesn't work like that.   Connect the remote to you computer and run the Harmony software. Add a new DEVICE (your Comcast xfinity 1 box)  Then setup an ACTIVITY that uses that device to watch TV.   HTH

Can the setup be done with Windows 10?

There is an online setup for this remote that works through your browser. I have the setup software installed on my computer. This was transferred to Windows 10 when I upgraded from Windows 7 and yes it still works. I prefer the installed software over the online as I have more control of the setup.

How many activities does this remote support?

One of my devices is a large switchbox of inputs, so I need support for something like 11 activities even though it will be only five devices.

I looked through the manual and I don't see an activity limitation, just a device limitation.

I have 7 activities set up.

I went through and added 4 more on the website (without loading them onto the remote) - the website didn't stop me for "too many activities" but if I add extra devices, it does stop me.

No guarantees, but it seems like it might work.

How does this remote handle cable TV and DVR?

It will take the coding of what ever box your cable company provides you. The soft keys on the siside of the lcd screen will have the specific functions of the dvr box once that device is selected. This is true for any device that requires any advance function as as top menu on a bluray or a ps3.

How does it handle a AVR and Smart TV?

Handles it fine and you can customize any of the buttons. Personally I prefer the harmony remotes though with a touch screen as they are more user friendly.
