How many USB ports will the keyboard and mouse utilize? Do I need one USB port for each piece?

You only need one. The mouse USB receiver can be plugged into the keyboard USB receiver which has a USB port at the end of the stick.

Is this keyboard & mouse  compatible Window XP?

I tried it with Windows XP service pack three and it worked fine.
It takes a minute or two when you first plug it in for the computer to recognise a new device and load the drivers but after that, it works just just like a wired keyboard and mouse.

This shows a wireless mouse in the picture. So it comes with the keyboard?

Yes the mouse is included. Just remember the mouse uses one battery, and the keyboard uses two batteries, so three AA batteries are needed.

Is this keyboard compatible with a Dell Inspiron?

I installed it on a Sony Vaio touchsceen.  It worked  very well and my wife is happy with it.
The keyboard should be compatable with any desktop.

Is the receiver a Unifying Receiver?  The picture of the receiver is not the tiny Unifying Receiver I know.

Yes it is and there is also an extender piece that comes with it. The part you are seeing is a 2" usb extender. I have purchased two of these sets, one for work and one for my home and they both work great.

I have a Logitech MK320 keyboard and M305 mouse.
Is there ONE receiver that will make both work?

when I purchased my MK320 it came with dongle that controls both, you probably need to purchase combo to have one dongle to control both mouse & keyboard.

Does this keyboard have indicator lights to tell you when the caps lock and number locks are on?

No.  The MK320 does not have any indicator lights on the keyboard.  The only light in the pair is a small LED on the mouse.  I assume it is to let you know when the batteries are near the end of life.

Is this keyboard fully functional in a Debian OS?

I don't know what a Debian OS is, but I do know this key board and mouse are a nice unit. My computer is a system my son built for me several years ago then upgraded everything this past spring. I find the keys type "crisp" and quick response. The mouse is also very good responsive. I upgraded my older wired keyboard system and am very satisfied with this product.
