Mechanical, not great durability. Had one last around 6 months and just straight up died last week. In RMA process right now with WD.

can this be reformatted for an iMac?

Yes, it can be reformatted to work with Apple operating systems. Depending on the connection (i.e., USB 2.0 vs. higher), however, the process can take a while.

is this hard drive compatible to mac book?

Has anyone used the 5TB for Xbox One or PS4? Does it work?

Don't if you want your game to load, this drive is extremely slow. I only use it to store files I only use once in a while and avoid loading off of it at all costs.

Is this a SMR or CMR drive?

I think that what you are asking is, is this drive fast and reliable. Despite the technology being used the internal drive used in this device cannot be judged for performance compared to a NAS or RAID array. I use this drive because it is faster and less prone to failure compared to other model drives that I have used. Mark has answered your question prior to my comments. I would not write this drive off because of the technology of the internal component and technology used for the storage capacity.

Will this work on a Xbox One?

the 4tb element WD drive-was a recommended drive by a gaming site- i dont see why the 5TB would not be as well!
