Pros: Literally plug and play. As simple as that. The device worked right out of the box.
No speed difference between plugged right into the router and behind the switch.
Inside the home network transfer speeds were able to fully saturate the gigabit ports.
It's small. That is always a good bonus for things like this.
Power brick is manageably small.
LED's are not that bright which is a necessity with devices like this. A bright LED makes them unusable.
Stays cool. Do not notice it getting warm to the touch even after nearly a month of 24/7 operation.
Cons: It's a con for all switches I've owned and reviewed. Why not make the brick portion of the power brick be separated from the plug. It almost always takes up at least 2 power spots if not three. They're trying to fix this by rotating it but if the power brick is wedged between the desk and the wall then all that does is push the desk away from the wall. It's a bit annoying. I'm not taking off one egg for that because everyone does it. It would be nice to see it change at some point but I don't really see that happening.
Overall Review: The price is right, it works right out of the box no problem at all, the two main things you want out of a switch. It provides 4 more networked ports. If that's what you're looking for then this is the switch for you. Those along with the other pros as listed above makes this switch a great value.
Pros: This switch works very well. It's maintains standard gigabit speeds. It's small so it's easy to tuck away if needed for splitting an office connection. No heat issues either.
Cons: No mounting points on the back. No link lights to indicate speeds.
Overall Review: This switch works wonderfully. I recommend it for anyone that needs a small switch.
Pros: This is an extremely compact size and way to add additional connectivity in the simplest way.
It's as easy as plugging it in and you have additional gigabit connectivity ports ready to use.
It's very small, which is nice since we have a lot of things plugged in these days. Connect to either modem or router and this will automatically switch based on demand, and leave nobody without a connection.
Netgear is a leader in connectivity products. Two-year warranty is very nice.
Cons: None... zero zip..
Overall Review: This is a very inexpensive way to add additional wired internet connections. Switching can tend to make me think one of the connections gets the bulk of connectivity, while the others wait their turn and real slow connections. In testing this I found this to be totally untrue.
For just about two weeks I have had 2 daily PC’s, an HTPC and a laptop connected. Two of the computers are used often at the same time and the HTPC is almost always on and running HDTV. I found it impressive that this unit never left any of them with a poor connection, at any time! This includes online gaming, HDTV running continuous, and a laptop just to be another user so that I could see how good this works. With two computers doing online gaming, I occasionally saw a slight reduction in FPS, but it was a fast recovery. That showed me that this not only switches on demand, it does it really quick.
It's has been like I didn't even connect this for the most part (compared to straight out of my router). With today's high speeds in our homes and businesses, for the multi-tasking and multi-users, this proved out to be a very good product. There is enough bandwidth to go around. I have a hi-speed package from my supplier. With a slow basic bandwidth package this might not give as good results, this is ‘Sharing’ a single connection.
How can you go wrong to even have this as a tool in the tool box of ifs? Additional connections or want to be ready in case, Would I recommend this to family or friend, yes!
Pros: Small form factor & sleek design
Super simple ease of use - it's functionally plug n play on all ports for any devices you connect.
Performance was A-OK for me; I plugged in my two computers, my router, my NAS, and my printer, and had zero issues. This little device never took more than 30 seconds of my time, which is perfect - it lets you set up your network and then forget about it.
So in short, you get an inexpensive & nice looking switch that functions perfectly well for home use, with a decent price tag and 2 year warranty. Good stuff.
Overall Review: Great little switch - definitely recommended. I'm a big fan of how this looks in my house compared to some of the more traditional "looks like it belongs in a server room" switches I've had before.
Pros: Looks nice than switches I have used in the past. Five ports is a good number for the price. Auto sensing speed works good.
Overall Review: Super easy to set up, just unbox and start using it.
Pros: The thing just works. I mean, the setup manual basically just says, "Unpack, plug into power outlet, plug in devices". And, guess what? That's all of the directions that you could possibly ever need.
Transfer speed is quite good. I tested it by transferring a large .iso file, and the transfer completed in no time.
Overall Review: It doens't have the bells and whistles of a regular enterprise-type switch. I don't count that as a negative, because there are lots of users who will never need them. If your switching needs are simple, this item will definitely do the job.
Pros: - Pleasing aesthetics
- Works as advertised
- Fairly solid construction
- Advertised as intelligence power consumption, seems to use a bit less than my previous switch.
Cons: - It's white... I'm not a fan of white components
- LEDs do not specify connection speed.
Overall Review: The switch its self worked fine. It's a switch so the installation is fairly simple, you plug one Ethernet cable into your router (or another switch) and then run cables to your devices.
In my particular setup I have several devices in another room and the main router in a different room so I have a long cable run to a switch next to the devices. This replaced an older dlink switch, and the difference is definitely noticeable. I squeeze a bit more speed out of the existing wiring and gigabit switch.
In a few brief tests I copied several files averaging around 500 MB in size. Typically before I would get about 80mb/s, now I'm noticing around 90mb/s.
I would have liked if the leds specified the connection speed, but it's not a deal breaker in recommending the device.
I'm sure this switch would work fine for a small office, but keep in mind that the body is plastic and so it would probably break if it were to be dropped on a hard surface.
The switch functions well as a switch, and if you need a switch then it's a good choice.
If you happen to have a white gadget setup then it should look great, as for me I hate white components and I buried it behind a table.
Pros: - Small, compact footprint
- Economical value with energy saving ethernet protocol
- Un-managed easy configuration and plug-and-play setup
Cons: - No mounting holes for vertical wall mount
- Status LED's do not indicate link speed
Overall Review: I had to really nit-pick this product to find any fault with it, I experienced no heat issues while using in an entertainment center or any other problems while using it on my home network (8 total wired devices)
The unit is easily set up with plug and play and no configuration required by the user other than ensuring all cables used are gigabit capable for the fastest possible speeds (or use whatever you have if speed isn't a concern)
If you are looking for a small switch to expand your small home or small office network this product delivers consistent performance at a great value to the user.
