This is a 1 1/8? Stud with a 5/8? female socket and threaded Female on top to allow mounting lighting with adjustable yokes on to stands and light grids. It is usually called a Bale. The stud is provided with a bolt to secure the light yoke. Due to the 1 1/8? diameter of the stud, It can also be used in Junior Receivers.
