The Phat Cat is a genuine single-coil P90 Soapbar designed to fit under a humbucker cover, making it suitable for guitars equipped with humbuckers. It was initially created in the Custom Shop for Hamer Guitars, but eventually the demand grew so significant that it entered standard production. The Phat Cats provide all the authentic grit and growl anticipated from a classic vintage P90 Soapbar in the bridge position, along with the genuine P90 bounce and sparkle in the neck position. Chords present bright, ringing harmonic overtones while solos deliver that classic P90 cut and edge.

Two Alnico 2 bar magnets are employed to offer enhanced sustain and a compressed attack, while the metal covers deliver improved shielding and noise reduction compared to standard soapbar covers. Additional features comprise a nickel silver bottom plate, single-conductor braided hookup wire, and vacuum wax potting for operation free of squeal. The neck model is RW/RP (reverse wind, reverse polarity) relative to the bridge pickup to ensure noiseless operation when used in combination. Handcrafted in Santa Barbara, California, with dedication to designing and producing items to achieve exceptional sound quality.
