Its unique diffusion properties are the result of a double parabolic reflector system, creating a blend of direct flash and softbox effects. This results in a wrap-around look similar to a softbox, but with enhanced contrast and a more dramatic, directed beam. The silver finish of this beauty dish amplifies output, enhances contrast, and brings out intricate details of your subject. It's compatible with most studio flash brands and monolights, attaching via speedrings that are sold separately.

The 28" Silver variant is ideal for everything from head and shoulder portraits to full-figure studies, even in tight spaces where softboxes and umbrellas may not be suitable. The design of the beauty dish includes a small opaque reflective cover suspended over the light source, preventing direct light from hitting the subject. The light bounces off this small interior disk and floods the larger bowl of the beauty dish, resulting in a softer light cast than a standard reflector and significantly less harsh than a speedlight. The position of the small center reflector cap can be adjusted to control the spread to the large bowl and accommodate tall or high wattage modeling lights.

Included with the beauty dish is a diffusion fabric panel, or "sock, " which fits snugly over the rim of the dish, softening the focused light ring, reducing contrast, and softening shadow edges. The larger 28" diameter model can produce a beam with more 'reach', scattering more focused light to treat larger subjects and areas. When used in a vertical tower array of 2 or more, the beauty dish accentuates a model's full figure. The Glow Beauty Dish comes with two interior coating options. The silver finish delivers higher output, creates more contrast, and brings out more detail than its white counterpart, which minimizes hot spots, smoothes skin tone, and reveals less texture. An optional Glow honeycomb grid can be added to gain more control of the light source's beam and feather the hard light for an attractive shadow.

The varying degrees of the grid can range from a broad 40-degree soft pool of light with little spill, to a narrow 20-degree spotlight glow with defined shadow borders, virtually eliminating spill from the rest of the body and the background. This strong directionality can be used to add high key depth for fashion images, and emphasize the model's facial structure as well as the eyes, lips, nose, and chin. The 30-degree version can achieve both effects of the 20-degree and 40-degree, but with less light control.
