Sandbags are used whenever you need extra weight to prevent tipping. You usually "bag" stands, especially when the weight is off center, such as with a heavy Scrim. They help stabilize equipment in windy situations and can counter balance Boom Arm applications. Matthews employs an additional inner liner of waterproof material in each sandbag to add a heightened degree of durability and safety. This is especially important in conditions of extreme cold as the inner liner helps to prevent the sand from getting wet, thus preventing the sandbag from freezing and losing its malleability.

Matthews sandbags preserve their ability to mold themselves around any object, thus extending the life of the sandbag. The outer shell of the Matthews sandbag comes in two different types of material: a heavy-duty cordura or vinyl fabric. The cordura is made out of flame resistant and stain resistant nylon. Essentially, you are getting the most quality product manufactured anywhere at an affordable price. The vinyl Matthews uses is a polyester woven fabric that is mildew and ultra violet resistant, meaning the fabric will resist mildew build-up and fading color in the sun. This material is also manufacturer guaranteed against rips and tears. The linear/butterfly handle spans the width of the sandbag. When you pick up the sandbag, the handle will pick it up via the outer edges of the width of the bag. This is useful in situations where the bag must be molded around some type of stand or other edged object because you can pick up the bag from the sides without having to disturb said object.
