Can I reformat this HD to be compatible with Mac OSx and Windows? Say windows 10 and 7 with Mac Sierra 10.12? Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry I didn't read your question correctly. Mac OS can **read only** currently NTFS formatted storage drives but **cannot write** on them. As for Windows, you can read/write HFS+ formatted drives but with the help of third-party software (this is also true for Mac OS users that are having to deal with NTFS formatted storage devices).

So since this HDD is pre-formatted as a NTFS storage device, ask yourself if you're going to be using this mostly in a HFS+ environments (desktops, laptops, et al) or NTFS environments . If you're going to be using this mostly on Windows machines with sometimes having to use this on a mac machine(s) that you will be supposedly frequently be using for just reading and **not writing**, then you're fine.

But if you're going to be needing to read/write all the time between NTFS and HFS+ (later APFS) environments, then I would just suggest dedicated formatted HDDs (get two of these and only format one of them to either HFS+ or APFS) and just use one machine with the driver software to read/write in either NTFS or HFS+/APFS to then make your life easier and the ordeal less expensive.
