This is because the SD card is not recognized by the camera. You can use your computer to format the card into FAT 32 format, or try a new card.
How long can I use it on a single charge?
1-4months. The battery life depends on the times of the camera wakes up. If you use solar panel to charge battery camera, then it will save you hassle of taking it down and plug it into recharge.
