Question 1

Is this M90q better than the i5 version for office work?

Accepted Answer

Choose this i7-14700 configuration if your office workload involves frequent heavy multitasking or CPU-intensive applications: the processor has 20 cores and 28 threads. A Gen 5 configuration with the i5-14600T has 14 cores and 20 threads and may be sufficient for everyday office tasks. Both are compact desktops, so compare the complete configuration and price before choosing.

Question 2

ThinkCentre M90q Gen 5 or HP Elite Mini 800 G9 with an i7-14700?

Accepted Answer

For CPU and integrated graphics, these configurations are closely matched: both can be equipped with the Core i7-14700 and Intel UHD Graphics 770. Choose this M90q if its listed 16GB memory, 512GB SSD, Windows 11 Pro, and vPro configuration fits your needs; compare the HP’s exact configuration and ports before deciding, since specifications vary by model.

Question 3

Should I get the M90q Gen 5 or a cheaper M90q Gen 4 with an i7?

Accepted Answer

The Gen 5’s i7-14700 has 20 cores and 28 threads; the Gen 4’s i7-13700 has 16 cores and 24 threads. Choose the Gen 5 when you want the newer processor’s higher core and thread counts for workloads that can use them. The Gen 4 may suit you if its specific configuration and price better fit your needs; check that model’s memory, storage, and processor before comparing.

Question 4

Can this M90q replace a desktop with a dedicated graphics card for gaming?

Accepted Answer

Not for workloads that depend on a dedicated GPU: this configuration uses integrated Intel UHD Graphics 770. Choose the M90q for a compact desktop focused on CPU-based work and general computing; for demanding games or GPU-heavy creative applications, compare systems equipped with a dedicated graphics card.

Question 5

Does it support Wi-Fi, or does it need an Ethernet connection?

Accepted Answer

It supports Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax), so an Ethernet connection is not required for wireless networking. The listed product information also identifies wired Ethernet as a connection option.

Question 6

Can it run more than one monitor?

Accepted Answer

The product information provided does not specify this model’s video-output ports or supported display count, so check the port configuration for model 12TH0013US before buying if multiple monitors are essential.

Question 7

Is this a good choice for everyday office work and meetings?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Its Core i7-14700, 16 GB of memory, 512 GB SSD, and Windows 11 Pro suit typical productivity tasks such as email, documents, browsing, and video meetings. It is a desktop, not an all-in-one: a monitor is not included, and the product information does not list a webcam or microphone.

Question 8

Can I use this as a travel work computer?

Accepted Answer

It is compact and weighs 9.05 lb, but it is a desktop rather than a laptop. You will need a separate monitor, keyboard, mouse, and power outlet, so it is better suited to a fixed or occasionally relocated workspace than to working while traveling.

Question 9

Is the ThinkCentre M90q Gen 5 suitable for a home lab?

Accepted Answer

It can suit a compact home lab: this configuration has a Core i7-14700, 16 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. A Reddit discussion describes an M90q Gen 5 being used with Proxmox, but that system had a different i7-14700T configuration. For multiple virtual machines or heavier workloads, the 16 GB in this product may be a limitation.

Question 10

Can I add a graphics card or other PCIe card later?

Accepted Answer

Do not assume a card will work in this configuration. Reddit discussions about the M90q Gen 5 describe uncertainty around PCIe riser compatibility and card detection. The provided specifications do not confirm a riser or discrete graphics support, so check compatibility for the exact machine type and configuration before buying expansion parts.
