It is a marvel of simplistic classic design. A lightweight, hardwood chair that folds side-to-side - from a compact flattened structure to a sturdy X released. Two sets of interlocked legs are joined to form a scissors-like mechanism that supports the director's full weight on a woven canvas seat and back. The seat and hinged scissors members work together when opened to support and distribute the user's girth so that the seat is comfortably taut, yet yielding. The back is supportive, and the armrests and footrest give an air of the furniture of royalty. The stereotypical image of a movie director, or mogul, on a location set, conjures the specter of one of these chairs, hence the name. The chair is an established symbol of the Imperium, reminiscent of the original Curule Seat of consuls, kings, and Caesar, of ancient times.
