Overview The CM5 Motor Driver Board is a highly integrated robot controller and embedded vision controller that combines a CM5 core module interface with powerful motor-drive and sensor capabilities. It is designed for high-performance mobile robots, smart vehicles and embedded AI systems that require coordinated motion, perception and I/O expansion on a single controller. As a dedicated CM5 motor driver board, it provides a complete motor drive ecosystem. You can drive up to 4 DC motors with encoders or 4 DC motors without encoders, enabling differential-drive robots, tracked platforms and mecanum bases.
The digital servo interface can control up to 4 PWM servos (e. g. 996R, 92R, 90S), suitable for pan-tilt units, grippers and small robot arms. Two serial bus servo connectors allow control of up to 253 bus servos with feedback, ideal for complex multi-joint robots and articulated mechanisms. For motion sensing and balance, the board integrates a QMI8658 6-axis IMU, providing continuous attitude and heading data. This is valuable for self-balancing robots, walking platforms and navigation algorithms that rely on real-time inertial measurements. On the vision and connectivity side, the embedded vision controller section offers 4K HDMI video output, dual MIPI camera interfaces and dual MIPI display interfaces, so you can attach high-resolution cameras and screens for AI vision, SLAM or teleoperation.
Additional expansion comes from dual USB 3.2 ports, a PCIe connector, a Micro SD card slot, fan header and RTC ba-ttery connector, making it easy to build complete edge-computing robot systems. A 40-pin GPIO header with Pi style pinout allows direct connection to many common HATs, sensors and expansion boards, extending the I/O of the CM5 robotic controller.
Power input is flexible: the board supports 913 V DC power input or a 5 V/5 A adapter (power supply not included), suitable for typical robot ba-ttery packs or bench supplies.
