Does this fit a 22" widescreen in portrait / rotated 90 degrees?

On a standard 22" It should. I've had my ASUS VW266H 25.5" vertical on it.
Also, it's a great stand. I bought it for one of two monitors specifically to go vertical and liked it enough to buy one for the second monitor even though I only use it horizontally.

Question 2

Could I mount a tablet (Surface Pro) on this? How does one attach the monitor to the mount?

The monitor will need four "VGA" screw holes in the shape of a square. Most monitors have them. Sometimes you have to remove the existing stand to see them. Very thin led monitors may not have mount holes so be sure to check your monitor back before buying. Some monitors have a longer rectangle patten of holes, but you can figure it out. Google VGA mount or something for images.

What are the dimensions of the base? I need it to fit into a trough cut into the countertop.

8 3/8" in diameter.
The base (circle) is also removable via a couple bolts
The base is close to 3/4" thick.
Where the base attaches to the vertical lift mechanism
the dimensions are 4 1/4" x 1.5"

Question 4

What is the distance between the table top and the bottom of the slot used to adjust the stand vertically? I wear progressive lens glasses, which means I look through the bottom of my glasses to see a computer monitor. I see the monitor best when it is nearly on the table top, so I would like to know how much room I have for adjustment once I screw my monitor to the stand.

With the display positioned as low as possible, horizontal orientation:
2-5/8" from the table top to the bottom of the display frame.
4" from the table top to the bottom of the actual display panel

With the display positioned as low as possible, vertical orientation:
3/4" from the table top to the bottom of the display frame.
1-3/8" from the table top to the bottom of the actual display panel

Question 5

I have an Acer G246HLAbd Black 24" will this fit for portrait mode? I want to play some shmups (if you must know, Ikaruga on steam) and read some articles.

I'm not so sure about a 24 inch screen, but my 23 inch Acer will work in portrait mode. You might be able to do it if you put a thick book or some sort of spacer under the base. This stand is real nice and it is real easy to attach, once you remove the stock base. Hope this helps you.

Will this work with a 29" Ultrawide monitor?

Fully no, but if you don't mind not being able to rotate the screen 90 degrees then yes. I used it with 24" touch screens that weigh about 11 pounds each and it holds them just fine with the ability to (barely) rotate 90 degrees.

Question 7

With the mount sitting flush with the back edge of your desk and the monitor at almost no tilt, how far is the screen from the back edge of the desk?  I'm just making sure it won't be too close to my face.

the back of my monitor to the edge is about 8 cm (3.15'').  So that distance plus the thickness of your monitor, would be the approx. distance from the back of the base to the front of your monitor.  Hope that helps.

is this compatible with an LG 27" monitor, 27ea63v?

The stand specs are VESA MIS-D which is compatible with either 100mm x 100mm or 75mm x 75mm mounts.  You can read about it at the Ergotron website here: (URL removed at NewEgg's insistence).

According to the LG specs page on this monitor at (URL removed at NewEgg's insistence) it states that the included stand is detachable and while it doesn't quote a VESA standard exactly it does state under "Dimensions - Wall Mount Pattern = 100mm x 100mm".

I think it is a fairly safe bet that this stand will fit that monitor.

I bought this stand to replace the OEM stand on a newly purchased Dell U2412M 24-inch monitor and have been very happy with it. The OEM stand wobbled terribly but the panel was great so I didn't want to risk returning it and getting a panel with dead pixels or other problems.

Question 10

Does this stand allow for the monitor to tilt down?  I want to put this stand on a shelf above another monitor and need it tilted down about 30 degrees so that the monitor is usable.
