The GA-Z68XP-UD3 motherboard is based on the Intel Z68 Express Chipset supporting the new 2nd generation Intel Core processors. Delivering the very best that Intel 6 series chipsets have to offer, including a significant performance boost with Intel Smart Response Technology, the first ever mSATA drive connectors on a standard desktop PC motherboard, and GIGABYTE's proprietary Touch BIOS technology, GIGABYTE Z68 series motherboards put users in the driver seat, allowing them to take total control over how their system operates and performs to best match their individual computing needs.

  • newegg Onboard mSATA for Intel SLC SSDs and Smart Response Technology GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are equipped with the much anticipated Intel Smart Response Technology, allowing users to experience system performance similar to SSD-only systems. Intel Smart Response technology works by using intelligent block-based caching of frequently used applications to improve system performance and responsiveness. In fact, GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards with Intel Smart Response Technology are able to outperform hybrid drive systems by more than 2X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and HDD-only systems by as much as 4X (PC Mark Vantage HDD test) and deliver a 60% performance improvement over HDD-only systems in PC Mark Vantage Suite.
  • newegg GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response The GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response utility is a simple application that allows users to quickly and easily configure their system for Intel Smart Response Technology. In the past, enabling Intel Smart Response meant users needed to enter the BIOS in order to configure their system for RAID mode, which then required a complete reinstall of the operating system. Once that processes was complete, users then needed to install the Intel Rapid Storage Utility as well as configure Intel's Smart Response Technology. GIGABYTE EZ Smart Response does all of this automatically, without users having to perform a complicated install process. This allows them to quickly and effortlessly enjoy a significant boost in system performance.
  • newegg Switchable Graphics with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization GIGABYTE Z68 motherboards are enabled with LucidLogix Virtu GPU Virtualization technology which allows users to dynamically switch between their built-in graphics and their high-end, 3D discrete graphics cards. This is ideal for gamers who require high-resolution gaming and still want to enjoy the built-in media features of 2nd generation Intel Core processors. In so doing, switchable graphics helps to dramatically reduce PC graphics power consumption.
  • newegg GIGABYTE Touch BIOS Navigating through the BIOS to change system settings can be a daunting task for users not familiar with control “F” functions and mouse-less navigation. While some EFI BIOS try to address this with a mouse friendly environment, many implementations still lack a certain ease-of-use necessary for most people. With GIGABYTE Touch BIOS, GIGABYTE engineers have completely re-imagined how users can interact with their BIOS, allowing for a more intuitive user experience. In fact, with a touch screen monitor, GIGABYTE Touch BIOS is as easy to use as most apps on your iPhone.
  • newegg Ultra Durable 3 The GIGABYTE Ultra Durable 3 features twice the copper for both the power and ground layer of the PCB, dramatically lowering system temperature by spreading the heat from the critical area (such as CPU power zone) throughout the entire PCB. GIGABYTE also lowers the PCB impedance by 50%, which helps to reduce electrical waste and further lowers component temperatures. A 2x Copper layer design also provides improved signal quality and lower EMI (Electromagnetic Interference), providing better system stability and allowing for great margins for overclocking.
  • newegg Multi-GPU Support with CrossFireX and SLI Flexible graphics capabilities supported for either CrossFireX or SLI deliver the ultimate in graphics performance for gaming enthusiasts who demand the highest frame rates without compromising on resolution.

Initially very buggy as it should have shipped with a UEFI bios, but still working after 4 years. 2/10/2016 2:11:04 PM

Pros: 8 sata ports is sure a lot of them, not a lot of boards have that amount these days even. Two pcie x16 ports so you can do SLI or Crossfire. Still running strong after 4 years of ownership with no need to upgrade to a new motherboard yet. Plenty of USB 3 ports on this board. 4 ram slots and it works great as a Hackintosh even running the latest El Captain 10.11 with ease!

Cons: Shipped with a buggy legacy bios but was later upgraded to a much more stable UEFI bios. Only PCIe 2.0 but not like it matters very much even with newer gpu. Still a bit buggy once in awhile, but nearly 100% better than it used to be.

Overall Review: I can not recommend this motherboard as its old now and there are many newer boards and this one is longer made or sold anywhere. I might buy another Gigabyte board in the future, but I may not since it was so buggy when I first got this board. Overall a good motherboard with 4 years of service and still going strong with no major issues.

It worked good for over 4 yrs... sort of... 1/5/2016 11:54:51 AM

Pros: Lots of features/ports, versatile

Cons: Had a hard time setting up a OCZ SSD drive when I first built the rig, I did finally get it all working, but occasionally the system would lock up, BSOD, and reboot (I've always put the blame on the OCZ drive - it was significantly cheaper then the competitors at the time) - it may do this twice in one day or once in a couple weeks...

A few days ago the computer froze up, this time upon rebooting it no longer saw/recognized the OCZ drive (had the OS on it). Truth be told this is a chicken before the egg thing I can't tell you if my SSD was faulty and when it failed it may have damaged the motherboard somehow or vice versa.... I have other drives in this computer and I've tried both with a DVD and with USB flash drive to load/boot all sorts of stuff and I'm just banging my head against the wall right now.... it gives me disk read error, insert system disk, loading operating system............. (and just sits there), I've tried windows 7, 8.1, and 10 as well as Ubuntu - after all this I question if my OCZ drive was the root cause as it seems something screwing is going on with this motherboard (maybe the controller?) and could have been causing my freezing/BSOD issues all along?

Trying to fix this on the cheap so I bought a ASRock Z75 Pro3 to replace the motherboard to avoid upgrading processor and memory to, hopefully that solves all my woes and I can finally get an OS to freaking install back on a drive. The only bootable utility I've managed to run without freezing is a memory test program off my USB flash drive (memory checks out ok), everything else fails instantly or at best, starts loading and freezes (I did manage to see the Windows is loading files screen twice and it errored out halfway through) it seems as through reading data off devices is sporadic and intermittent?

PS: For my troubleshooting and tinkering I stripped my rig to essentials to try and get an OS to load to keep things less complicated and reduce room for error.

Overall Review: This board has a lot to offer, but it also has some qwerks, I was hoping it would last longer, my previous build lasted over 5yrs and was crapping out due to capacitors I was excited this had the solid capacitors, which should theoretically extend the life of the board - it didn't exactly live up to my expectations.

Due to the redundant amount of ports and controllers on this board it makes configuring a bit more confusing and difficult i.e. it has 6 SATA ports powered by one controller, and 2 GSATA ports on a separate controller, finding the right settings and what to tweak at times can be a challenge. I have never figured out how to even use the GSATA ports o.O when I plug items in those they aren't detected at all, and it's turned on in the BIOS.

Good performer, but buggy 7/21/2015 4:54:38 PM

Pros: Good price, solid performer, a lot of features.

Cons: Does not support anything past 2nd generation Corei series intel processors despite what they say; tech support could not get mine to work. Had to abandon it and buy an older one. Also, the machine has crashed with 3 separate SSD's now and tech support insists there must be something wrong with the SSD's and will not help me troubleshoot past that. Trim is enabled, page file is set to another mechanical disk. Their tech support simply told me to check drivers and firmware (rookie stuff) to make sure they were up to date and then told me it wasn't the board. At least offer me some other support!

Overall Review: This is probably the last time I buy a Gigabyte board. I have been buying them for over 10 years. But when they won't make it right when they mess up and something is wrong, and they lay the cost on the consumer - it only shows that they do not care about their customers. I will find a company that stands behind their product in case something does not work.

Been running strong since spring 2012 7/24/2014 3:29:50 PM

Pros: Hasnt failed on me yet, has had a few graphic card swaps, I run an i7 2600k since I bought it with 16gb of RAM 4 sticks. I have a GTX 670 in it atm. In a mid-tower, about to be moved to a full tower. I run both HDD and SSD.

Cons: Honestly after reading all of the bad reviews I cannot say I relate to any of them. I dont know if I just got lucky or what but this tower has been moved and packed up in luggage about 4 times a year since I built it with everything in it and I've never had any issues with anything really. The GTX 570 gave me some issues but really I cannot think of any cons off the top of my head.
My super tech friend said it's the ugliest board he has ever seen but hey it works as well as his saber tooth.

Overall Review: This was a great board back when I bought it and it hasnt let me down since. I'll wait till it gives me issues or I want to get a different socket type till I even think about replacing it.
