Motherboard power requirements would vary greatly depending on what's connected.
The more important question is will a discreet video card be used and what are it's power requirements?
What is the CPU power requirement?
How many hard drives?
SSD or conventional HDD?
The manual recommends 500W or greater.

Planning on buying one for my build;  I had originally selected G.Skill Ripjaw X series ram (2x4 gb - ddr3 1600) to go with it.  However, I noticed on the specs for the ram that it is "Compatible with Intel LGA1155/LGA1156 and AMD AM3/Llano/AM3+ platforms".  
Will it work with this board, or do I need to look for a different set of sticks?

That sounds like a misleading statement written by newegg. DDR3 1600 should be compatible. Check the manufacturer product page to be sure it'll work with the 1150, usually a link on the newegg page.

I am considering purchasing a Corsair Carbide case which has one Firewire connector to be used with this motherboard.  Does this motherboard has a firewire connection on it? Please advise. Thank you.

No Firewire. Has 4 back panel USB 3.0 ports and an internal USB 3.0 connector for 2 additional ports; also 2 back panel USB 2.0 ports and an internal connector for up to 6 more.

If you need Firewire, don't get this motherboard. But, if you're looking for front panel access to USB, it is a simple matter to get something like the "Sedna 3.5" Front Panel with 2 x USB 3.0 + 2 x USB 2.0 Ports" (I can't link but look it up on Newegg), if your case has a 3.5" opening. Just connect to the internal headers (connectors).

While I can't compare the ASRock I can tell you that the Gigabyte boards you are looking at are the same except one can overclock (Z97) and one can't (H97). If you are going to overclock you need to get the Z board, otherwise go with the H.

Yeah, it works great if you're not overclocking. Only thing is the pins are in kind of weird spots. Overall works really really well

Haswell / H87 chipset had a lot of issues with Hdcp compliance and DRM 
I don't think H97 is any better ... So neither is a good choice if you're gonna 
Try to build a htpc or hackintosh .  If you're not going to be on iTunes for hd movies
Then it's a non issue for you , go for the newer h97
