it says it can use the AM3+ chipset.. but it does not say the FX-8350 CPU?

i bought this motherboard to use with the fx-8320.  based on the research i did beforehand, the 8320 as well as the 8350 cpu models are fine, although for windows 7 home premium i downloaded and applied patches kb2645594 and kb2646060-v3, which are referred to as the "fx patches".  a quick internet search will bring these up for you.  apply the first, reboot, apply the second, reboot, done.
i have a very stable 4242mhz overclock on my cpu and the motherboard stays consistently under 38 celcius, even under load.  i have found the extreme9 to be a really great, stable motherboard and am planning on buying another for a second home computer build soon.  i actually intend to use the fx-8350 for this build.

Question 2

I heard this mobo is really picky about RAM modules, and I really just want my setup to work on the first time with no troubles so which memory works with this board? Please don't lie or troll me, it's a lot of money that will be spent on this build and I have no wish to waste it. Some people say that g.skill won't work while others say the opposite and so forth, so it's really confusing. The processor I will be using if I buy this board is the FX-9590.

I used 8GB G. Skill DDR3 PC3-19200 TridentX and am having no problems with the RAM. I have the FX 8350 CPU and I am very happy with the performance. The mobo is high quality and put together well. I had them linked to a plain jane Western Digital 1 TB HDD. For graphics I used a Sapphire Radeon HD6670 I'm not a heavy gamer so this was sufficient for my needs. The FX8350 came with a cooler but I swapped it out for a Zalman CNPS9900. Powered all of this with a cooler master M2-720W and stuffed it into a HAF 912 Cooler Master box. Again I built this in January and have had no issues with the RAM or mobo. I ran HDMI cable from the graphics card to my flat panel TV and the picture quality is great for streaming movies.

Question 3

IF I PURCHASE THE AMD-FX-9590 processor am I required to get a water cooled heatsync ? Also I OWN a seasonic GOLD SS-750KM AND A NVIDIA 660TI   nothing else to speak of power wise. IS my power supply sufficient for this new motherboard and processor ?

please respond as my ASUS M4A89GTD-USB3 motherboard  2 OF THE 4 MEMORY SLOTS ARE FAILING...I can only run 8gb.

Well your processor will come with a a liquid cooler. So unless you want to liquid cool other components you shouldn't have to purchase anything. Your power supply however is going to be taxed with this setup. The 660 alone recommends a minimum of 450w and with you running a processor that draws 220w I'd say your pushing it.  Plus if you ever want to add anything to your setup you'll have to get a new power supply to go with it. I'd recommend you go ahead and get a bigger power supply. I'd probably go with at least 1000w just for a little future proofing. On a side note congrats on the rig. Wish I could afford something like that.

I already have the very same CPU 
(AMD FX-8350 8 core 4.0 GHz (4.2 boost))
as you indicated you intend to use, 
and the CPU cooler that I am using  
is the Cooler Master Hyper 212X, 
this is a newer version with some 
improvements over previous ones.
The X makes the difference (212X).

I also used Arctic Silver 5 thermal compound.

Dumb question perhaps, but I felt I had to make sure: The specs ist "CPU Type" as Phenom II / Athlon II / Sempron 100 Series--does this mean I CANNOT use FX CPUs?, e.g. FX-8350. In other words, are there differing types of socket AM3+ I should be aware of?

Nah, I am running this mobo using FX-8350 no issues at all.  Maybe do a BIOS update if you're really paranoid.

Generally speaking if a motherboard supports a socket it will support all CPU of that socket.  Sometimes you get strange exceptions like I had an issue getting FX-8350 to work on a different MSI motherboard but that was because of an issue with the TDP (heat).

TLDR: Yes FX-8350 works fine.

Just the heatsinks that are already attached to the mobo. Usually when you buy a cpu it will come with a heatsink and fan for that. Excellent board though for sure.

Anyone actually able to use 64 GB of RAM with this?

When there is no memory kits for such a thing, 
that is, 4 x 16 GB of RAM, then it doers not exist in reality yet.

Try to find a memory kit for 4 modules of RAM (quad channel), 
that amounts to 64GB (4 x 16GB), and you may find it, but it 
will be memory meant for a server, and not memory for a desktop PC, so the reality of using 64 GB of RAM on this mobo does not exist yet, that I know of or am aware of.

Have used hundreds of boards over the years.  But in a home system I have never tried more then 32.  I have found many boards that claim to do 32 that will not.

I think I am going to pass you on to a server expert which I am not.  I have worked on servers over the years but the boards were very specialized and so were the operating systems.

If you just want a super home machine you really do not need more then 2x8=16.  Then spend the money on all fast ssd drives.  Make the "C" drive just the operating system and your viper protection.  I like 120gb to 128gb for that but smaller will work.

I use four ssd drives OS, programs and data, games, and backup.  If you have no use for office work you could do 3 ssd drives.

Get a fast board like this one and a water cooled : one of the top 2 amd chips.  Mine is set up this way and its a jet running a 27 inch screen, one 760 2gb video, 900watts.

Keep applications and data off the "C" drive for best performance.  Many apps like Photoshop and auto-cad tell you not to put them on the operating system drive.

Keeping your system broken in to 4 pices makes a restore easy if a drive should fail.

I have this board and it is great but it is a little buyer beware as I have seen several posts that show some of the output jacks are not working.  I have one of those boards.  Its no specific jack but random so its a quality control issue.  My internet jack was dead but being lazy since all else works fine I just got a 100/1000 pcie card and things work great with it.

Okay so I've looked on the ASRock website and under the CPU support list it shows the AMD FX 9590 as supported. I just got my motherboard today and upon reading the MANUAL it says it only supports up to 140w for the CPU. Should I be worried about this? I know the FX 9590 goes up to 220w.

I've been running the Vishera 8-core at 4.8 GHz for well over a year, with this motherboard, in the form of the FX-8350. Rock solid. Water-cooling with a large radiator and two fans is required. It does get quite warm when I use all cores. In my opinion, the FX-9590 is the same chip, but they want to lock you into using water cooling to achieve the higher speeds. Clever move; now they don't have to supply a stock fan and can charge you more for the same chip.

Question 9

Bought this motherboard to go with my AMD FX-8350, went to install it, finally got the CPU to lock, but now I can't get the heatsink to lock in. Does it just not work? Is something lopsided, or should I just force it?

Are you positive that the processor is fully seated in the socket? I ask because they are not hard to lock and you stated you had some difficulty doing that. If the cpu is not fully seated, that will create interference when installing the cooler. You could bend the cpu pins or crush the die by forcing it. I recommend removing the  cooler, lift the cpu locking arm and remove your cpu and closely examine it for bent pins. The cpu should fall easily into the socket and the locking arm requires no difficulty at all to secure.

If all this checks good then you may have the wrong cooler (not likely, but possible). On some of the AMD heatsinks, the tensioning mechanism is quite clunky. The last two FX processors I installed worked flawlessly however. I hope this has helped in some way. Make sure the thermal grease on the back of your cooler is still there. If not, clean it off both the cpu and cooler then apply Arctic Silver 5 or equivalent.

To clarify on my previous question, if I used 4 of these RAM Modules: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820104376 , would they be be compatitble? or would I have to use the Crosshair V Formula Z motherboard to utilize these RAM modules that are collectively 32 GB that run at DDR3 2400? If so, that would be a shame because this Motherboard supports upto twice as much RAM as the Crosshair V Formula Z. [On a side question, does anybody know if there are RAM cards (not RAM modules) on this site? and how to find them?]
