Has trouble posting to the display 1/16/2020 9:14:38 PM

Pros: -wifi
-looks cool

Cons: -only a red LED
-no post code
-possibly unfriendly towards non-gamers

Overall Review: So i loved all the features the board offered for the price, but i was having trouble setting it up.
The problem was that it wasn't posting anything to the display, so i replaced both the motherboard and the CPU, still the same problem. The solution was to run the display through a GPU, the onboard HDMI port doesn't seem to work? dumb problem right? so this motherboard might not work if you do not have a GPU. I am keeping the motherboard for now, gonna see how it goes now that i got it working, might update my review then.

It's alright but... 1/6/2020 2:41:28 PM

Pros: - Motherboard Works
- Pricing is nice

Cons: - Mine didn't come with M.2 SSD screws (minor complaint)
- Computer freezes after a while with an APU unit

Overall Review: Yeah I've had this system built for nearly a year and just about every now and then It Freezes and sometimes so bad it freezes multiple times in a hour. I'm currently have a Ryzen 5 2400G in the motherboard right now. I tried using 2 SSDs, 1 of them I used for a really long time and never had a problem in my own build, but having problem in this setup. I've been getting multiple types of BSOD mainly DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION which never happens (And yes it's still fully updated). I just need some help because this has been going on with my Gf's computer for almost a year now .

Great for what it is 1/5/2020 6:18:09 PM

Pros: Price
Wifi
Bluetooth

Cons: Lack of small additional items included. No extra cables or any accessories just the motherboard. I don't know if this is common now but I thought I at least got some sata cables and a wire block for the leds, power switch etc that makes it installing easier with my gigabyte x370.

Bios: All of the amd bios I have worked with so far seem to not be as polished as the Intel boards but I guess that is what you get for putting out almost the same product for so long.

Overall Review: Built for someone so it is not under my purchase history. It may not be the best motherboard on the block but for the price and features I cant say it was a bad buy. They wanted built in wifi and bluetooth this had this which save money on buying the add ons. It was paired with a 3600x and G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB. Came shipped with bios version 3.5 so I don't know if this was from a newer run as that version is only four months old at time of build. Updated bios to 3.7 and set xmp to 3200 and set up pbo without issue.

Win 7 and SLI don't work 1/1/2020 1:45:53 PM

Pros: Got it on sale-ish?

Cons: USB in Win 7 does not work.
Despite having "SLI" in the name, SLI does not work.
Only boots when it wants to.

Overall Review: With such glaring oversights, will not buy another ASRock product again.
The thing is a joke.

My upgrade from Ryzen 5 2600 to Ryzen 7 3800x worked perfectly! 12/4/2019 7:33:52 PM

Pros: I've had a good product and support experience with ASRock since I have owned this board.
- Good value for the price and features offered (Wi-Fi, Blue-tooth, NVMe, ECC)
- Good for modest overclocking (DRAM mostly, do not bother overclocking for CPU)
- Supports liquid coolers and many fans
- Bootable NVMe and SATA hot-plug (allows quick disconnect without having to reboot)
- Works great with with Ryzen 5 2600 or Ryzen 7 3800x
- Had no problems when stress testing WiFi or LAN that others reported.
- BIOS/UEFI version P3.20 disk password option added. (Have not had a chance to test this yet)
- BIOS/UEFI version P3.20 Corsair RGB RAM works with this motherboard
- BIOS/UEFI version P3.30 Ryzen 3000 series supported (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.1)
- BIOS/UEFI version P3.40 Ryzen 3000 series supported (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 AB) Seems improved, and offers independent SOC voltage adjustment alternative to "SOC OVERCLOCK VID" without having to override the automatic CPU voltage.
- BIOS/UEFI version P3.50 Ryzen 3000 series supported (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.3 ABB) Stable and works well and fixes 4K monitor problem
- BIOS/UEFI beta L3.67 Ryzen 3000 series supported (AGESA Combo-AM4 1.0.0.4 Patch B) Recommended for ECC with Crucial CT16G4WFD8266
- ECC support seems to work, detected by OS multi-bit error correction with Zen2 CPU
- No annoying chipset fan

Cons: - BIOS/UEFI: No troubleshooting indicators. (could've used the onboard RGB for that, duh!). No recovery feature in case of bad flash update (no bios flashback). Could be more documented and user friendly (it works).
- Originally questionable VRM advertising. (I guess most vendors are doing that anyway)
- Network update was removed sometime after BIOS/UEFI P1.90 (probably a good thing since no dual-bios or bios flashback)
- On older BIOS/UEFI the ability to change only the SOC voltage on this board is not as easy as it could be. You have to find an option called "SOC OVERCLOCK VID" and enter a hexadecimal value to change the voltage. I came across a German youtube video that provided the undocumented VID values . (may be different depending on BIOS/UEFI version) On my system the value "54"=1.016v, increase the value to lower the voltage, decrease the value to increase the voltage. There is a SOC offset option however don't use that. I found in testing that using that option the BIOS/UEFI pushed the SOC over 1.2v unexpectedly.
- Since BIOS/UEFI version P3.40 it doesn't seem to like it when a 4k monitor is attached and takes a some extra time trying to enter BIOS for some reason. (fixed in version P3.50)
- VRM heat-sinks were firmly attached although they could have been designed better with more surface area to dissipate heat and heat pipe liking both parts of VRM heatsinks. Use a good airflow case.
- XFX RX 5700 was a very tight fit. Chipset heat-sink and fan header almost prevent GPU installation. Flex motherboard from the back a few mm to get the card to snap in, then it's ok.
- I have been updating this review a few times over the year. Unfortunately newegg resets the help counters every time I update this review. I must have helped at least 30 people so far with this detailed review.

Overall Review: I ended up using 3 different RAM kits and 2 different processors over the time I have been using this motherboard (since December 2018) and everything has been working great. Giving it 5 eggs (up from 4) because my upgrade to Ryzen 7 3800x worked perfectly. (I've updated this review many times over the past year as I've tested various features of this board.)

Installation with AMD Ryzen 5 2600 6 core (12 thread) 3.4GHz (3.9MHz max boost)
For any CPU I recommend installing using the latest version of Windows 10 USB image (older versions will have problems), get drivers directly from AMD (chipset), and get drivers directly from Intel (WiFi, Bluetooth, LAN), also get drivers from Samsung (if using NVMe). Only used audio drivers provided by ASRock.

Upgrading to AMD Ryzen 7 3800X 8-Core (16 thread) 3.9 GHz (4.5 GHz Max Boost)
- Before swapping CPU:
- Reset to BIOS defaults, save, reboot
- If you have a BIOS/UEFI older than P1.90 update to P1.90 first!
- Be sure to update to BIOS/UEFI version P3.30 (minimum). Version P3.50 is much better.
- Install new AMD chipset drivers and update Ryzen Master
- Swap CPU
- After swapping CPU:
- It is normal to have to wait some time for the motherboard to detect the new processor and readjust before posting. (potentially multiple reboots)
- Reset to BIOS to defaults again, save, reboot
- Do not use any pre-saved BIOS/UEFI profiles with your older processor. Save over top any existing profiles you had to avoid loading any incompatible settings you had with your prior processor.
- Do not panic when you see the voltages after your new 3000 series CPU is installed. Google "the_final_word_on_idle_voltages_for_3rd_gen_ryzen" and read the article there to understand what is happening. It is normal and related to core boosting behavior.

Memory Configuration:
- Setting XMP profiles often don’t work properly on Ryzen especially for anything over your CPU design specification. You may need to use AUTO settings initially then manually enter DRAM voltage, frequency, and timings.
- If overclocking or manually entering RAM settings, use software to output your RAM SPD chip data and use that data with “DRAM Calculator for Ryzen” as a guide to help you configure compatible settings. It may take some effort to figure out the correct settings for your system.
- Be sure to run memtest86 to check for errors and stress test your system.
- BIOS/UEFI updates can effect RAM stability so if you have tuned your memory manually expect to have to re-tune it after any BIOS/UEFI update.
- This board uses daisy-chain topology so use DIMM slots A2 and B2 when installing only two sticks of RAM for the best compatibility and performance.
- Dual-rank memory or fully populated DIMM slots may reduce the ability to run higher frequencies.
- For Zen+ processors stick to single rank memory.
- For Zen2 processors go dual rank DDR4-3600 for best price to performance ratio with matched 1:1 infinity fabric speed.
- Run at least DDR4-3000 minimum for any Ryzen CPU for good performance.
- Before performing any BIOS/UEFI updates always reset your memory back to AUTO (JEDEC) speeds to ensure your update will not encounter any potential memory errors.

The first memory kit I used was...
CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) CMK16GX4M2A2400C16 (ver 5.30, single rank)
- XMP profile worked as advertised at DDR4-2400 @1.2v (16-16-16-39-55)
DRAM overclock w/ 16GB (1 kit) will work at DDR4-3200 with adjusted timings and voltages
DRAM overclock w/ 32GB (2 kits) will work at DDR4-2933 with adjusted timings and voltages

The second memory kit I used was...
Corsair Vengeance RGB 32GB (2x16) CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 (ver 4.32, dual rank)
- XMP profile didn’t work at DDR4-3200 @1.35v (16-18-18-36-54)
- XMP profile underclocked at DDR4-2933 no problem
- Manual timings entered, stable with DDR4-3200 with P3.30 BIOS/UEFI
- Manual timings entered, stable OC with DDR4-3600 with P3.40 BIOS/UEFI
Search Corsair Memory forums for "CMW32GX4M2C3200C16 (ver 4.32)" to find compatible settings if you are having problems with this memory kit. Basically tRC+4 is needed to get it working.

The third memory kit I am currently testing is…
Crucial 16GB DDR4 SDRAM ECC Unbuffered DDR4 2666 (PC4 21300) Server Memory CT16G4WFD8266
(32GB, 2x16) or (64GB, 4x16)
- With BETA BIOS (as of 12/03/2019) this memory kit seems to work properly at stock speeds
- This kit will overclock to DDR4-3200 with 32GB or 64GB ram! Thanks ASRock for making an awesome board.

Pros: This motherboard came with all it says and it even has a nice sticker that says it supports 3rd gen ryzen.

Cons: I dont think this was so much new eggs fault but the shipping was slightly concerning, box was bulging with the edges with tape on them being worn down, only 3 pakaging air pads only on the top and corner damage on the actuale mobo box, I get its not super high end but I expect proper packing of my mobo
