Hello, is this product compatible with Radeon R5 295 2X 8-GB Graphics Card? Can i have 2no. 8-pin (2x4) PCI-E connectors each delivering 28A of current.

Yes.   This is a beast of a power supply.   I have 2 kingpin 780's and have pulled more than 1800 ways from the wall with this unit.  I think your single card will be just fine.

What circumstances warrant so many watts?
Im planning on running a build with SLI 1080, GPU and CPU overclocked, and having custom liquid cooling with  2 loops with seperate pumps, which then would use about 20+ fans. lighting accessories, fan controllers, etc.  Am i fine with a 1200W PSU? Would i need this?

I built a Quad SLI Rig with GTX780 TIs about three years ago and used one of these as a replacement PSU after my first one burned out. The real power draw in any SLI system comes from the GPUs Which in the case of the 780 draw around 250 Watts each and 1000 Watts total. Everything else, which includes 64 gigs of Ram 10 case fans and an i7 hex core and CPU Liquid cooler draws about 300 total, hence the need for such a powerful PSU.

With only a single card and a liquid cooling system you should be fine with PSU ranging from 750 to 1000 Watts, 1200 would be a good buffer and room for some system expansion.

I was very interested in this PS until I came across the tons of reviews that made mention of the circa 1992 ribbon-style cables that come with it.

Is it possible to use aftermarket cables with this unit (replacing the Corsair ribbon-style ones), or does the PS use proprietary plugs/connectors thus preventing the use of non-Corsair cabling?

I use mine in a PC Power and Cooling Full Tower...unfortunately, it is no longer available...but I would think any Full Tower case from a reputable manufacturer would be fine.

Is this PSU really 5.98" X 8.74" X 17.80" as it states in the newegg specifications?  Seem a bit long?

Without tearing open my PC to measure it, I'm going to doubt it is 17.8" long, however it is the longest PSU I've ever used. It extends past the furthest screw hole setting for a PSU rest in my Corsair Air 540 for example.

Question 8

I'm trying to get a clear understanding of how many PCIE cables/connectors there are on the 1500i.  NE site lists 8, but the Corsair site has 2 8pin cables with 2 connectors...  For a total possible of 10?  I'm running 3 kingpins and would rather use one PSU (vs the 2 I currently use).  Each KPE uses 2x8 pin and 1x6 pin.. for a total of 9 for tri sli.  And they need all the amps they can get.

There are a bunch. There is one cable that is a double, i.e. two connectors on one cable. There are 4-6, I think, separate 8 pin connectors. You would have to use two to power up another BIG video card. If you find there are not enough cables, you can always order them directly from Corsair. I had to do this for Molex connectors, since I have 12 SAS drives and 16 fans.

What is the airflow of this?  Does the fan pull air and it vents out the back, or is the fan pushing hot air out?

The fan does not engage until you reach like 85-90% of its peak power output so it is literally off until it is needed for cooling.

Will this power two 85w Xeon CPU and four 215w GTX 1070 GPUs on a ASUS Z10PE-D8 WS MOBO?

I think it would. My AX1500i powers a Striker Extreme motherboard with a i7 4930 six core over clocked to 4.5, four GTX980's, 64gig of Ram, one Samsung SSD, six 2Tb Western Digital hard drives, two Swiftec high output variable speed water pumps. Also there are seven fans to keep the motherboard cool. With the processor, video cards and water pumps maxed.  out, the whole system draws only 1050 watts from the 1500 watt power supply. The processor is the only thing water cooled at this time and that is accomplished with a Arctica Aquarium Chiller. The Aquarium Chiller is activated via low voltage/high voltage relay that is activated when the computer is powered up.
