what operating system are you running with this processor?

Was running LINUX Mint 17.1, currently running Win 10 Evaluation Copy. Will switch back to LINUX after windows evaluation period expires.  Ran both OS systems with 8 GB ram (2x4GB), both ran OK.  Going back to LINUX because it is free and not to happy with windows EULA and builtin 'spying' (How much of it can you really turn off?). Please note that I also have an AM1 5380 SOC system, I think it  is wotrh the extra $$. The 3850 is not bad but I like the 2GHz chip better and both are 25 watt chips.

Question 2

Is this processor capable of running 1080p movies smoothly, whether it be streaming or local?

I use it with a MSI mini ITX mobo in a HTPC.  Records and plays back Clear QAM HD content at the correct resolution with no dropouts or pixellation.  I was trying to determine what was the lowest power processor I could use in an HTPC to record HD content.  I also found that a Raspberry Pi will also stream HD content without a problem.  The AMD AM1 Processors are powerhouses by comparison.  Hope this helps.

I am wanting to do a Quad core cpu upgrade on an old pc but I am very confused, because I'm looking at the possible upgrade details on a Compaq Presario SR5605F, so when I look at the cpu upgrade information it says Sempron - All does this mean it can fit a AM2 socket or not? That's all i need to know thanks.

No, this cpu will not fit.  AM1 is actually much newer than AM2, which dates back to 2006.  The best you can do is get the fastest K8 series you can find, a dual-core such as the 64FX or a 64 x2 6000+

I've been quite of bit research on home servers, with main purpose of doing backs ups for few computers in the house, store information on it, and maybe a few other things but nothing to intensive. I was just wondering would this cpu do decent job in a home server?

Considering the power consumption, you'll arguably be hard pressed to find a better solution without purchasing a dedicated NAS device. I purchased one of these as a kitchen PC for casual surfing and basic apps, but was surprised to find that it handles streaming and multimedia remarkably well too.

This is a great processor for the price. I build all my desktops and was very happy AMD made a quick, sturdy processor that doesn't cost more than the rest of the components.

My wife uses the computer for school work, I use it for photos, etc and Publisher.  For a good all-purpose desktop, it's a great buy.  Runs Windows 8.1 flawlessly.

Yea, I have ran just about every linux distro under the sun on this thing and they all worked just fine, I would suggest a different processor if it's in your budget

Can I run 64 bit photoshop 6 and lightroom 5 using windows 7 OS on this? Will Lightroom 5, 64 run smooth without slowness and hickups while processing files?

I don't think it will. I bought this for my parents and it is a very slow moving processor. Probably best for just everyday use.

How tall is the heatsink and fan that comes with this? Can I use an AM2 heatsink on this or are they not compatible?

The heat sink and fan are really small, around 2 inches high and not much larger than the processor itself but i have had no cooliing problems at all and its whisper quiet.

It does not overclock at all.  I tired and I got the Blue screen.
