I'm looking at using this as a primary drive in a lenovo A730 - there's a space for it on the motherboard (on a drawing anyway, I haven't disassembled it). Was wondering if this comes with the samsung cloning software, or if I have to download that separately?

Separate. Download from website.

Go to Samsung website and under support tab download the Data Migration software.

If the new drive is smaller than existing drive you may want to use the integrated tools to "shrink" the volume (os resident) for easy cloning.

Google shrink volume.

Does this work with the IBM W520 Msata slot ?

I can't speak for that specific system, but it has worked in all the laptops i've put it in (mostly Clevo units). mSata generally just works. M.2 is the tricky one with all the different key types.

I am not seeing an msata slot for you computer, so as far as I can tell, this will not work for you.  Your wireless card is most likely the smaller format so that slot wouldn't work either.

I'm planning on throwing this in a barebones build using an MSI Cubi chassis. Does this SSD come with the screws required to mount it to the board?

This does not come with the screw, the Cubi comes with the necessary screw. However the Cubi (Core i3) I bought and the RMA replacement both did not display video so I had to return the Cubi and this SSD. They even tried charging me restocking on this item. It's a month after my initial purchase and I just got the tracking number for my new Intel NUC. I would stay away from both these items as the broadwell Intel NUCs use m.2 SSDs. I love MSI, but the Cubi line seems to have poor quality assurance. Hope this is helpful to you.

Will this SSD fit into the data acceleration slot underneath the Drobo 5D box?

I looked at the specs of the drobo 5d and it says it has "One (1) mSATA solid state drive in the Drobo Accelerator Bay for increased performance (sold separately)."  So this should fit as it is mSATA however I do not own a drobo and cannot test.

Well for one, it's the way the actual drive "plugs into" your motherboard.  If if you are asking about speed performance, the mSATA is supposed to be a faster channel for SSD's, but you won't notice any difference between the two drives.

If you don't understand the difference between mSATA and SATA III connections then Google it.

will this work in a samsung 9 series? NP900X4C specifically

Really lame that searching for your model of laptop on Google or even Newegg doesn't tell you the interface of the storage device.  However, looking at Crucial's web Site for up-gradable parts for your specific model of laptop "NP900X4C" shows that the mSATA interface is what you want.  This SSD chip is an mSATA interface and will work for that model laptop.

Be careful installing, I believe this chip gets pushed into the socket at a 45 degree angle then pushed down.  Sometimes there is a spring pushing it back up and you need a screw to hold it down.

You'd need to review its hardware manual to see what kind of slot it has and if it's easily accessible.  I used it in a Lenovo X220.
