how to install in apple computer?

Hi, I did nothing more than plug it into a USB 3.0 port and the operating system Win XP SP3 recognized it as a Mass Storage Device. I then showed up on Explorer and I transferred data to it. I did not install the software that comes with it so I don't know how that works. I would imagine that if Win XP saw it then Windows 7 or Win 8.0 would also recognize it.

What warranty does this come with if I don't add the additional accidental warranty or data recovery warranty offered?
