Is the drive require to be powered by plugging into an outlet or does the drive gets its power from the USB port?

This drive is powered directly via the USB port, and does not require a separate outlet. That said, it does require a powered USB port to operate from, and will not function from a non-powered USB port. (Some USB hubs or computer USB ports are non-powered, and this drive would not work from those pors.)

Does it come with passport protection already available?

do you mean Password protection to access your file for security ...NO !
