How is the noise on this drive when idle? IOW, if I'm just using it for media storage but not actually reading or writing to it, is it still loud? Or only when the system actively accessing the drive?

I actually bought 4 of these and put them in a NAS drive. When idle, the drive goes into a not operating standby mode so it takes a few seconds to spin back up. When running, the 4 of them combined are quiet enough that I don't notice unless I'm looking to see if its spinning and focused on the device.

is this an SSD or HDD hard drive?

To further the dissemination of technical jargon, I'll add that this is a rotating hard drive without an SSD being used as an on board cache. Up your game fellas

Does this come with screws to attach the HDD to a drive bay?

It does not, usually only motherboards come with screws.

Will this work in ps4 hard drive upgrade?

Yes, but format the HD before you put it in the xbox, just to get the 8t to show up
