Have you had any problems with "loose usb cable" others have noted?

I have not experienced a loose usb cable. The only complain I have is it prevents my computer from booting up into Windows when the Hard Drive is plugged in. I have to disconnect it from the usb port to boot my computer. I have tried to adjust the settings to no avail. Other than that, it woks fine.

This a great high capacity drive. It has very good USB 3.0 performance Wring performance is about 2.5 times for me, that is about 117MBS, part of the performance is due to the 7200 rpm internal drive. If you use this drive on USB 2 ports it also works fine at USB 2 speeds.

The drive comes with software and documentation. I do not use the included software. Instead, I use other backup software products. I use this drive this drive in other applications beyond as a backup device.

The dive is designed right; it has no dangerous on/off switch; instead it goes into a low power down state when it is not being accessed within so many minutes. When it is accessed in the standby state, it maintains the access hold state and goes into operation in about 2 to 3 seconds; never causing retries.

It also comes with a variety of included international power adapter plugs use in various countries of for travel to needs.

Every month, I buy either 1 or 2 of these drives and now I have 11 of them.

The usb 3 cable is design is only about 18 inches; excellent for small towere or laptops. Therefore, for some of my large servers, I use separately purchased 24 inch and or 36 inch cables.

Does this drive work when only plugged in to USB (i.e. power supply is not plugged in)? I'm not worried about speed.

No. It will not power on without the external power supply.

Can I use this with a 2.0 USB port?

Yes you can use this hard drive with 2.0 USB. I do this w/ my PC. However the USB cord that comes w/ this drive isn't great...best to consider buying a separate cable for it.

Will this work with USB 2.0?

In short: yes.
The unit comes with a USB 3.0 cable that it absolutely needs to connect to; however, the other end (the end that connects to a computer USB port) will work with any USB version.  You will just wait longer for files to transfer.

Is this compatible to an Apple Mac Pro?

I use this with my MacBook Pro, so I would assume it works just fine with a Mac Pro.

Can you use the drive if it lays down, so not standing up? And what side is up when you lay the drive flat, should the connections be at the bottom?

I have mine laying down and it seems to be functioning just fine for months on end now. I have it with the light on the left ;-)

I bought this last week from newegg.  I put about a TB of movies on it in different formats from mp4 to avi files etc.  I had them all on a 1 tb Samsung hard drive and when i plugged the drive into my tv it always worked just fine to have them in category folders and view them.  once i brought them over to the d3 station in those same exact folders and plug it into my tv the tv says no media exists to play?  If anyone has any information i would sure appreciate it.  Thanks

Your TV media player may not support a 3TB drive.  Check the specs. Most top out at 1 or 2TB.
