Does it play music and videos directly from the HD well?

Yes.  Basically it will act like a very large USB drive.  This HD is powered from the USB port, NO external power supply is needed.

Can you drag and drop items from your computer onto the seagate backup plus 1 tb 2.5" 3.0 ?

The answer is, it depends.  If you have the drive formatted as just a NTFS volume, then yes, you can drag and drop.

I reformatted my drive to be a MAC specific drive to use with Time Machine and therefore it is not as easy to use for drag and drop copy procedures.

Question 3

where does this hd get it's power from. If USB, will 2.0 power be adequate?

I own five of these and use them with both USB 2.0 as well as USB 3.0 and they work fine with either USB type.

The data transfer rates are much better using USB 3.0 however the unit still transfer data quickly using USB 2.0

The unit does draw its power from the USB connection, but the type of connection has no effect on powering the unit.

I think you will be very pleased with your purchase.  This unit also comes with Seagate's Dashboard Software, which makes back-ups super easy; if that is what you plan to use it for.

Question 4

If you have had problems with this drive such as data corruption, a failed surface test, or your PC/Mac no longer recognizes the drive, have you tried removing the drive and placing it into another enclosure to determine if the HDD is the source of the problem? If so, what was the outcome? Thank you.

No problems, to date. If you have had issues, what you states is doable. I would plug then drive only into a computer with an open internal SATA slot and boot into bios. If it is recognized, maybe the Seagate bridge is bad. In the case.

Question 5

My new red Seagate BackupPlus will load correctly on a USB 2.0 drive BUT NOT USB 3.0 -- although it is intended for USB 3.0!
How can this be corrected?
(An older blue BackupPlus works on both USB port types)

This isn't really a forum for troubleshooting, but here are a few thoughts...

It's unclear what you mean by 'not loading correctly on USB 3.0'.  Does the system see the drive?  Do you mean that you are not getting USB 3 speeds?

Here are a few troubleshooting ideas...

1.  Reboot your system and try connecting both the blue and red units to the same USB 3 port to verify that the red still doesn't perform as expected.

2.  Disconnect the the usb cable from the red drive and take the usb cable from the blue drive and plug it into the red drive.  Then connect the red drive to your USB 3 port.  If that works, you've got a defective cable.

3.  The removable "interface adapter" may be loose.  These Seagates have a removable "interface adapter" that allows for connecting the drive to different types of connectors.  It's possible that the one on your red drive is loose.  The part of the drive where the usb 3 cable plugs into it is a removable interface.  You may need to push it into the drive to reseat it.

Otherwise, you should probably talk to Seagate Tech Support or ask NewEgg to RMA the old one as defective and order a new one.

What is the Cache speed? Does it run at 5400rpm or 7200?

I was not able to find that information. The spec sheet on Seagate's page does not define the rpm's. You might have to call Seagate for the answer.

The drive seems to be working flawlessly.

Question 7

I couldn't get this to read on both Mack and pc. It was reading on the Mac and then wiped clean now mac wont recognize it and Pc still doesn't see it. I want to start by formatting it on the pc with windows 7?

I have never had a problem with the pc seeing the drive. You could try pulling the section off that has the light and the usb cable plugs into. You will do no damage by pulling that section off and revealing the sata connector beneath. Then you can plug the drive directly  to the mother board and format the drive. After formatting, reconnect the usb section. It should be ready to use.

does this work for the xboxone?

I have not used it on an xbox, i have it attached to my samsung tv with cartoons for my kids.

Other thing was, i was not able to use this as a bootable drive.
