Question 1

Does this drive have to be used in the vertical position (as shown in the pictures)?  I have a crowded desktop and am afraid of knocking it over....laying it flat would be safer.

Nope, mine spends plenty of time on its side. A couple of notes however:

1. It has no rubber feet on the side so it's prone to slipping about.
2. Do not try to turn it over while it's running. It's a standard spinning disk, so you could damage it.

Question 2

Will I be able to record HD gameplay footage directly to this drive or do you think the USB will bottleneck and mess up the file?

If you're that concerned about bottlenecking, try recording to an internal drive (assuming you have at least some space available) and then move the file to the external drive once it's done processing.

Will this drive work with Windows XP?

Yes it will work with XP.  As far as I know it doesn't need any drivers and is a plug and play drive.

Does this work for xbox one memory expansion and can i use it as a computer xbox one hybird device?

Hi There,

Yes you can just plug it into your Xbox One. It will detect it and ask if you want to use it as external storage. From there you can say yes.

It also asks if you want to transfer existing games there. I don't see the point in doing that. Might as well use the onboard for what you have no and this for new games going forward.

Does this work just like an actual hard drive or is it a case or just for show? How long does it usually last until needs replaced as well?

This unit is an actual external HD. You connect it to the computer with a USB cable and enjoy using additional 3TB of storage. I use it to store the photos from my iphone.
I don't see any reason to replace it soon. I cannot tell you how long does it last. Mine works fine.

Can you give feedback regarding the use of this drive for Acronis backups and Window system backups?

The drive works great with USB 3.0. It is fast and quiet.  I mainly used this as a backup for my photography business. It is only used for large data dumps off of a primary backup drive for my off site storage. I would recommend this drive.
I cannot tell you if this would be a great heavy use drive since mine is only used once a month.

Can this be set up in as a RAID configuration?

USB 3.0 has plenty of transfer rate for a HDD, however, I don't know of any RAID controllers that can use USB drives.

Is it Mac compatible?

It should be. When you plug a drive into a Mac it should walk you through formatting the drive for Mac's file format. Don't quote me as I am not a Mac user but that's been my experience whenever I've plugged any external into one.
