Large storage, but...

Pros: Large storage, decent warranty, easy set-up and use in Windows or Linux.

Cons: Not the fastest spinner in the garage. Not even close. But adequate for a shared drive on a home network. Just don't have high expectations for using this as a primary system drive.

Overall Review: Thought I'd try a couple of these Iron Wolf drives in a large home / small business server. They are barely adequate but I'll keep them. I've been using HGST 2T and 3T drives for years and never had a failure even with old drives in heavy use. I hope the Iron Wolf drives will provide similar or better service since they cost more than the HGST units.

Not the fastest option but good value

Pros: - The drive runs cool and quite under normal use but does get warm when pushed hard for long periods of time. No surprise there but, ensure you have adequate cooling if running this thing wide open for long periods of time and especially if using multiple in a cramped RAID array (as you should with any spinner).

- My drive has been 100% reliable with thousands of hours of hard use (YMMV).

- Not the slowest 4TB NAS HD out there and performed well as "only" 5900rpm

- Rotational Vibration Sensors

Overall Review: I have spent the past few months putting this drive through the paces compared to it's direct competitors. There have been reports of these drives failing in 12 months or less and I wanted to stress test this NAS HD as much as possible to see how common these failures may be. I'm pleased to report that after a few months of abuse, the drive is working flawlessly. If you have this drive (or drives) in an enclosure, ensure there is adequate cooling as this did tend to run a little warm when being pushed hard. No surprise there though.

Overall this a decently fast NAS for a 5900rpm drive however, vs some of it's competitors, it's well behind the 7200rpm spinners. It performed flawlessly in all testing and was 100% reliable with zero bad sectors on thousands of hours of use. Reliability is a top priority on a NAS drive used 24/7. That said, the reported number of drives failing in a short period of time is cause for pause. All I can report affirmatively is that the one drive I have has been perfect. For the price is it worth the gamble? Only you can make that call.

Measured results:
- CrystalDiskMark
4K: 0.528 (Read) 1.347 (Write)
Seq: 186.3 (Read) 185.8 (Write)
- NAS transfer speeds on a network capable of running close to 115MB/s wide open on faster drives:
Read: 102 MB/s
Write: 97 MB/s

Good NAS drive for the money.

Pros: This is a bare drive Seagate IronWolf 4TB NAS hard drive. No accessories arrive with the drive. Although you can use this disk as an internal drive in your desktop it is designed to be installed in a NAS and can be powered 24/7. My environment is quite noisy so all I can say is this drive isn't any louder than the other disks I have installed in my system. This drives functioned as it should through my testing which included filling the drive to capacity with large and small files, reading from and deleting multiple times. See other thoughts for experienced read/write speeds. Keep in mind this is intended to be installed in a NAS. If you are looking for a local drive with lots of speed this isn't the model for you.

Cons: None to be reported. Will report back if I later have an issue with this disk.

Overall Review: I would personally look at the larger capacity disks. They are not that much more and in my world I would rather have too much storage than not enough. To protect yourself with these larger volumes I highly recommend mirroring or utilizing a trusted backup solution. No disk is perfect and they will all eventually fail.

Transfer speeds tested with a local SSD going to and from the Seagate NAS disk.
Write (local disk to local disk small files) – 40 MB/s
Write (local disk to local disk large files) – 180 MB/s
Read (local disk to local disk small files) – 25 MB/s
Read (local disk to local disk large files) – 170 MB/s

The disk comes with a 3 yr warranty

SeaGate Reliability and a 3YR Warranty.

Pros: This is a great product for your NAS system. This one is a 4TB Seagate IronWolf and the available ranges are from 1TB to 14TB.

A 3.5” drive with 64MB Cache, running at 5900 RPM. Workload rate of 180TB/Year
Optimized NAS Drive with AgileArray, dual-plane balancing for Raid optimization for Multi-Bay Drive NAS systems.

IronWolf Health Management for improved reliability by displaying actionable prevention, intervention and recovery options. This is great because you let your NAS run 24/7 where reliability counts.

I installed it in my current NAS 3 bay system. Using 2 4TB drives. It was quick and easy to install and get up and running.

3 Year warranty along with Seagate’s years of experience and support Has you covered for your questions and needs.

Cons: None

Overall Review: When I installed this Seagate IronWolf 4TB drive into my existing NAS system it was easy to get up and running. I use it for 3 different sources and even security camera storage. When in a NAS it’s awesome to know it’s reliable not only for 24/7 us, but also has recovery option if you need it.
So smooth I you almost forget it’s running. Storing and pulling Data, Movies, Music, Games and it runs perfect across my PC’s and Laptop. Being that it’s storage to review I wanted time to be able to say that it has stayed steady and reliable.

I’ll grab music or a Video and run it on either of my equipment as smoothly as if it was from right in that PC and it’s not. The ability to store in one place instead of duplicated across your equipment makes it easier for a one time save of info.

I do have a separate storage for my security camera’s and I was curious to see if I files for that video, how would it go. I don’t plan on keeping my security storage in my NAS. When I pull a stored camera clip, it has been doing a seamless job.

Having a NASD setup is almost a set and forget system, I rarely touch have to touch it or do anything but let it run and do its job.

I have a do own SeaGate products over many years. Not once have I needed a warranty claim. The 3 Year warranty will assure you that you can count on this IronWolf storage. And when it comes to a NAS and storage, reliability is important. You will have the confidence that your information stored is there, ready to use and with the Data Recovery Services, your safe in the event of Flood, Fire or other corruption should happen.

We can write quick reviews or use it for a month and report. To be able to say “Recommend Buying” mine running for apx. a month with no problems. Constant backups, my entire music collection and Videos stored, I have had zero problems. Just does its job in the background like it should.

I am sure that you’ll enjoy yours and feel like me that it is a product to buy and enjoy that you have a SeaGate IronWolf protecting your files.

Rock Solid Performance and Silent

Pros: Seagate a name I've trusted working in large data centers for years! I'm about performance and dependability. Using 4 x 4TB in a RAID 10 w/Adaptec RAID Card to archive photos and videos. Initially I was concerned about going with 5900 RPM vs 7200 RPM. CrystalDiskMark 6.0.2 returns Seq Q32T1 Read 319.9 MB/s and Write 263.6 MB/s. In application, I see 120 MB/s sustained write for 20MB RAW photos and 200 MB/s for video file writes. The drives run cool and silent. There are no sounds during spin up, seek operations, or shutdown.

Cons: For me personally none.

Overall Review: If your looking for a cost effective, dependable, performant hard drive at a good price point, it's worth the time to consider the Seagate IronWolf series

Great Drive. Sweet spot of price to storage.

Pros: Quiet
Low Power
Made for Synology
Transfer rates max bandwidth.
Power down state.

Cons: none. very happy.

Overall Review: I bought 4 for a Raid 6 setup with 2 other 3TB Ironwolf drives, and everything is working great in Raid 6. I thought the Raid 6 setup, would slow things down with its parity, but, I get full bandwidth, up and down. Very happy with the drives so far.
- I strongly considered the RED drives by Western Digital ... but, decided on these drives because of the price. AND, they are quieter and faster in fact, after testing.
