Are these the same that are put into lap tops? for example the same a ps3 or ps4 would use as well?

Be careful when ordering this. It is thicker than most modern laptops allow. I ordered it and had to use it in another system because of the 15mm thickness. Most laptops have space for 9.5mm or thinner drives. Otherwise it is a great drive if you have the correct space for it.

Will this drive work in an older MacBook Pro?

I don't know how 'old' you mean by 'older' but if the MBP uses a sata interface, yes.  I bought mine for a MBP myself.  I would recommend using some kind of USB->SATA adapter to connect it first.  Format it with GUID partition table so you can boot from it, and use SuperDuper to mirror up your current drive to it.  After that you can swap the drives and you will be all set.  That is the method I use and it has worked every time I have done it.

will it fit in my 2013 macbook pro?

No  - the height is twice that of a typical 2.5" drive. If you buy it you'll have to pay a restocking fee like I did when I sent it back.

Is these compatible with PS3?  But more importantly is these compatible with the new PS4 soon to be released?

Sadly no this drive will not work in a PS3 because of the physical height of the drive itself. The drive bay in I think all PS3 consoles is either 9 or 9.5mm and this drive is 15mm so it won't fit in the drive bay. I have seen some 1TB drives that are still the 9 or 9.5mm in height from the manufacturer design of increasing the platters density instead of, like this one, adding another platter to increase the capacity.

As for the PS4 I can't say if it might work in the system as an upgrade because I haven't been following the specs to see if they stuck with the same size bay. I would assume that they would to try and keep the PS4 as slim as possible, even though a few more mm wouldn't hurt it's unlikely. But again won't know until I get my hands on one on launch to actually be able to tell. Hope this answered your question.

will this work in a laptop and what is the speed 5400 or 7200?

This will not fit in most laptops as it is, I believe, 11mm tall. Thus, it is too tall (thick) to fit in most laptop enclosures. It will fit in servers (HP DL-380's for sure since that is what I did with it).

The drives are very, very slow. 5400rpm is what I believe they run at. I made a mistake putting them in an iSCSI server I built and they can not keep up very well. However, I'm planning on pulling them and putting them in an entertainment center and I think they'll work just fine.

Will it fit into an Envy 17? i want two of them.

I'm not sure if it will fit into that model. I tried putting it into my 2011 MacBook with no luck. However I was able to put it into a friends older MacBook Pro. It was only about 1/16-1/8 to big for my computer and that was because of the mounting system apple uses in the later models.  Depending on the space and mounting mechanism for the hard drive I would think it would fit. Hope this helps.

Will this drive fit into a mid-2010 Mac Mini with the DVD-RW drive?

I know nothing about macs. It is a 2.5" drive which means it is a laptop size hard drive not a desktop size hard drive. Note it is a little thicker "height" in size which may not fit into any laptop hard drive slot.
 I used mine in an external hard drive case so it didn't matter how thick it was the case handeled the extra thickness. Once you get into 2 gb the drives are thicker a 1 gig drive should fit into any laptop, but keep in mind some laptops have a new thin drive size hard drive so you have to know what your laptop takes to be safe unless you use it as an external hard drive like I did the it should fit into an external hdd case connected by usb or esata cable.
