The Specs say: "My Cloud Mirror personal cloud storage comes equipped with two hard drives and is set to Mirror Mode (RAID 1)." To be sure, I read this to mean that there is no need to buy the two HDs because 2 6TB HDs are included in the purchase. Am I understanding this correctly?

That is correct. The drives come pre-installed. You do not need to even open the case. Just plug it in to power and router and setup using your computer.
