Built on the proven success of the SteelSeries 7G, the new 6Gv2 utilizes gold-plated mechanical no-click switches and a powerful buffer-system to provide gamers with advanced key combinations and increased Actions-Per-Minute (APM). The extreme “anti-ghosting” feature allows as many simultaneous key presses as there are keys on the keyboard: Move, crouch, aim, fire and even check the scoreboard, all simultaneously in first person shooter games. SteelSeries’ Media Controls offer quick access to volume, mute and other audio controls. The mechanical tactile system is ergonomically designed to ensure ease-of-use, while the no-click switches and iron-infused plastic makes the 6Gv2 both comfortable and durable, with an unrivaled lifecycle of 50 million keystrokes. Like a tank, this “heavyweight gaming keyboard” is not the prettiest chick in the beauty pageant. It doesn’t glow or pulse. But it packs a punch. A serious one.

  • newegg Mechanical Switches SteelSeries 6Gv2 is built with mechanical no-click switches, which provides a highly different users experience compared to using the “soft feel” keys found on conventional keyboards or even laptops: low latency and fast response.
  • newegg 50 Million Key Presses, and it’s heavy The 6Gv2 offers a lifecycle of 50 million key presses per key, which is more than 10 times of the amount than conventional keyboards. The 6Gv2 is also physically heavy. All keys are mounted on a metal plate within the keyboard to ensure durability. The plastic material used to create the keyboard has metal elements, also to help to improve durability.
  • newegg Consistent Tactile Feedback The 6Gv2 offers more than just a long lifecycle. The rubber domes on a conventional keyboard will, over time, lose their tactile feeling due to rubber flexing. The keys you use the most will start to feel different. The physical construction of the mechanical switches used in the 6Gv2, and the strict tolerance levels in which the switches are manufactured, is what allows the key presses on this keyboard to always feel consistent.
  • newegg Travel Distance - Increased APM With the 6Gv2 you don’t have to press the keys all the way down for them to register. The mechanical switches will register key presses fast; the travel distance will be roughly 50% shorter than a conventional keyboard. You will type faster, with a consistent tactile feeling. Your Actions Per Minute (APM) can reach new heights with the 6Gv2 thanks to this feature.
  • newegg Redefining “Anti-ghosting” When using the PS/2 connection on the 6Gv2, you can press as many keys as you want at the same time, all of the key presses will go through and be registered by your computer. When using USB, you can use up to 6 keys plus modifiers at the same time, which is the highest spec limit a USB connection can accommodate.
  • newegg Media Controls, No Windows Key The Windows key has been replaced with a SteelSeries Key that won’t wreak havoc during a gaming by minimizing your game or by opening a menu. The SteelSeries Key serves a different purpose: it’s a function key for the Media Controls found on the 6Gv2. Press the SteelSeries key and access the Media Controls via the first six F-keys on the keyboard. No additional rows of space consuming keys translate to a compact and easy to transport keyboard.

I've ended up disappointed. 10/1/2016 7:45:37 AM

Pros: - Good anti-ghosting. I believe with USB the limit is something like 6 or 8 keys down simultaneously, and with this keyboard, it doesn't matter which keys, they all work.
- Keypresses register quickly. I didn't really buy it for that; the notion of a fast-response gaming keyboard seemed rather silly to me. But I have to admit, the keypresses certainly feel faster, and that can't hurt in competitive multiplayer games.

Cons: - You can't see the keys in the dark. The white lettering gets dirty, the keys reflect monitor light, and the J and F keys bumps are difficult to feel. This might not effect the worlds best typists, but I'm not sitting up at attention all the time when I use my computer. I shift around in my chair, take my hands off the keyboard when watching videos or reading, and switch my right hand from the mouse to the keyboard. Black might look cool, but I'm glad I kept my decades old ugly beige keyboard so I can use something designed by someone with only functionality in mind.

- The keys are registering multiple keypresses per fingerpress. I can't truly recall if it's any of them other than the G key, but that one is bad, sometimes even registering 3 presses (which has happened twice while writing this review)

Overall Review: I think I mainly bought this due to the anti-ghosting claim and the supposed reliability. The anti-ghosting is nice, the reliability is worse than an old cheap name brand keyboard, and the other problems are just plain disappointing. I would not recommend this keyboard (and yes, the G key stuck again (humorously enough, the D before this parenthetical stuck too, and another G in here))

Great board 1/13/2016 5:55:44 PM

Pros: -Solid
-Heavy
-Great weapon
-Sturdy
-Over built to be honest.

Cons: -Keys are meant for registration and precision. Not a great keyboard for typing fast.

Overall Review: This is a super durable keyboard. If you are not familiar with the black switches, I would try them first before you buy. They will be very different then other styles of switches. I would describe them as beefy. NOT EVERYONE LIKES THESE SWITCHES. I do though.
I havent had any issues with the letters coming off, and I have owned the board for years. Maybe these other reviewers are sweating or eating and typing. That would be my guess anyway.
If you are looking for something really reliable with black switches, and want some self defense as you sit at the computer, pick this puppy up.

Steelseries 6gV2 Keyboard 6/18/2015 12:15:14 AM

Pros: Durable - This thing is freaking solid. If you have a habit of punching your keyboard after your noob teammates lose the game for you, this one can take the hit.
Cherry MX Black Switches - These switches take marginally more force to press, reducing accidental presses and keeping fingers strong
Simple - No flashy lights or touch screens or any of that nonsense.

Cons: Simple - No flashy lights or touch screens or any of that nonsense. For the price tag, you'd at least expect macro keys
Size - Others have complained about the size, and it did take a while to get used to the keys being closer together. Constantly swapping between this keyboard and a laptop keyboard has me making typos fairly often.
Price - Pretty pricey for what it has. Durable is good, but for that king of price tag you'd at least expect a few macro keys or something.

Overall Review: If you are going to abuse the hell out of this keyboard, and don't really care about macro keys or backlights, wait for a sale and buy this.

Works but switches and spacebar are poorly designed 4/20/2015 2:35:25 PM

Pros: Mechanical switches, decent key layout

Cons: the spacebar is horrible. if you the left or right side of the spacebar the opposite side will raise up and not register space bar key strokes

Overall Review: For $15 more the Corsair K70 is a much better design with more features.

This thing is a brick 4/14/2015 1:32:50 PM

Pros: I have used keyboards mainly rubber dome keyboards and chiclet keyboards, but I decided to get myself a mechanical keyboard at last.

1. Very Sturdy, almost no flex to it
2. Cherry MX Blacks feel great, a bit stiff compared to what I was used to but I got used to it within a week, enough resistance so I don't accidentally hit keys while resting my fingers on keys while gaming.
3. Easy to type and game with
4. No nonsense design

Cons: No cons in terms of functionality

Overall Review: It didn't come with a wrist rest, but that was easily fixed by picking up a cheap $5 one from the store.

The keyboard has a strange size and layout so you cannot replace all of the keycaps if they break

No backlighting, but I knew that when buying it.

Anyways, I hope to get some 40A-L O-rings soon to remedy the clanky sound when bottoming out.

Not impressed... 12/8/2014 7:19:09 PM

Pros: Mechanical keys, simple design, and it feels heavy and physically durable.

Cons: The paint is already wearing off the W, S, A, D, and left shift keys. So disappointed by that. I've had it for a month. Sometimes it feels like the Backspace key doesn't register my press so I have to hit it again. Also, the keyboard is very loud. I watched the Newegg video review for this keyboard and the girl in the video said it was quiet. The keyboard I received is NOT quiet, it is in fact, very loud.

Overall Review: Really disappointed in this thing. It works, so I'll give it three eggs, but no more.

Decent, as long as it works! 11/24/2014 5:22:52 PM

Pros: This keyboard feels pretty beastly, having some nice heft to it. The rubber feet keep the thing in place during even the most frantic typing and gaming sessions. The switches, as always, are going to be subjective, but as someone who's more used to MX Blues, I found the switch to the MX Black keys to be far easier than expected. They have a nice stiff feel to them and with some practice you can type rapidly without bottoming out too hard.

The left Windows key was replaced by a SteelSeries button, ostensibly to prevent users from accidentally pressing it in the heat of the action. This is a nice feature to prevent you from accidentally pressing the key while gaming.

Cons: Despite this keyboard's hefty appearance and feel, mine developed major issues soon after the manufacturer warranty expired. If I move the keyboard too much, it will repeatedly disconnect. Additionally, I find that it repeats letters on certain keys fairly often, particularly "U" and "L." I've never had a keyboard that started showing major issues this early in its life.

The keyboard layout is going to throw off many people who are used to the modern US layout, as the backslash is to the left of the right-shift key. Certainly an ill-advised design decision on SteelSeries' part, and something that continues to throw me off after a year of fairly regular use.

The left Windows key was replaced by a SteelSeries button, ostensibly to prevent users from accidentally pressing it in the heat of the action. Yes, this also a con. If you are used to using the left Windows key for OS shortcuts you'll have to get used to using the right key, as there is no way to switch the behavior of this key (unlike Logitech's gaming keyboards, which offer a convenient switch). This issue also makes this keyboard all but unusable for daily use on a Mac as well.

Finally--and this is a fairly minor point--the print on the key caps comes off very easily. It doesn't seem to rub off completely, but it definitely turns from a nice white to a dull grey.

Overall Review: I did really like this keyboard when it was functioning normally, but I would have to advise against it simply because of the reliability issues that I'm having. Even if I were eligible for a replacement or repair at this time I wouldn't recommend it due to the particular way that this keyboard failed.

Good keyboard 2/3/2014 8:42:39 AM

Pros: Great solid keyboard. Heavy, you won't move it while gaming. Good mechanical switches, cant hear as much with a headset on.

Cons: The only reason i took away the last egg is because the keys seem to fade extremely quick. WASD keys were fading noticiably within the first three days of having the keyboard. Granted I did a lot of gaming but its a gaming keybord......
