poor quality can't find a replacement battery 11/23/2019 8:11:25 AM

Pros: it worked for a couple of years. then fell apart

Cons: when I original bought I had to return it to newegg because the hard drive failed immediately. It worked for about two years the began to separate. A year or two later the battery went, tried to find a replacement when its excepted which means I only works withe the charger plugged in . I won't ever buy another Lenovo it I can help it.

Overall Review: Try other brands then this one

Good value, bad build quality and display 1/10/2017 3:28:22 PM

Pros: Good gaming performance
Fast
Nice keyboard
Not too heavy (Not light either)

Cons: The build quality is TERRIBLE. I have seen other people complaining saying the hinges near the display broke after a month or two in reviews here, and the same thing happened to me after about a month and a half after buying the laptop.

The display is honestly horrible. The colors are just disgusting for me and I just don't enjoy using it.

Overall Review: It's a decent laptop for the price, but its bad build quality and display keep me from recommending it. Buy something like the acer aspire v nitro and keep yourself away from this.

Fantastic 8/3/2016 8:26:25 PM

Pros: Back light Keyboard
Plenty of Ram
Light Weight
End of power adapter seems rock solid
Ethernet port
Full Number pad
Comes with external DVD burner (Never have used it yet)

Cons: Easily get smuggest on the machine
Screen’s viewing angles could be better. However this screen is a big improvement compared to my last notebook.
Update: SSHD is a bit slow.

Overall Review: As you can imagine you’re not going to get battery life for days, but it’s still decent. I take my notebook to school every Monday and use it off the charger for a few hours. As stated viewing angles are not the best, but it’s not the worst. It has an AC wireless card, but I only have an N750 router so I can’t speak for wireless performance. The weight is not bad. It actually weighs less than my last notebook. I have played Warframe on this machine and it seems to run good. Currently its school season, and for us college students that means less time to game. I bought this machine to be my mobile gaming platform as well as a school computer.

Laptop has some big issues 7/1/2016 4:50:16 PM

Pros: I love the look of this, and it's pretty fast. I'm a big fan of the high resolution screen too. Yes, there are still some issues with Windows handling the high res, which does suck, but I still prefer the high res. Also the finger print issue that some have had is not much of an issue for me.

Cons: There are a lot of cons really.
First, there's something screwy going on with the keyboard... it's been happening since I got the thing. For some reason when i'm typing, it'll do really strange things like it'll change the alignment of the text, or it'll paste the last 3-6 words I type (even though I didn't copy them). Sometimes it'll open a windows app too. I've verified that i'm not accidentally hitting anything either. It's just messed up. And recently I've also been having problems with the mouse. There are issued with the USB inputs (which I'll get to in a minute) so sometimes I have to use the built in mouse pad, which I hate doing. On this laptop, there are occasionally issues where, if I click on something to move it, like a desktop icon, or a browser scroll bar, if I click down, I am then unable to move the mouse up or down. It will only respond to left and right movement.

The issue with the USB ports is, both of my USB 3.0 ports act up regularly. If I plug in an external HD, the computer goes back and forth from thinking it's plugged plugged in, and not plugged in. Sometimes it's so bad that it'll just to back and forth every second. It's the same wtih both of my 3.0 outlets, but the 2.0 is fine.

Regarding the design of the laptop, i hate that they built this thing so that you MUST use 2 hands to adjust the volume. You need to use the function key to adjust the volume, which means you can't do it with one hand. It might not seem like much of a hassle, but it is for me. Especially when I'm watching movies and i'm stretching to reach the volume.

I've also had the same issue that others have noted where the mouse pad seems a bit loose. It doesn't seem to affect the functionality, but it's louder than it should be, and its' annoying. It makes it feel cheap and poorly made.

Update: I had the same issue that another user reported here. The hinge broke. It was obvious that it was too tight and it started applying pressure to the plastic that houses the hinge, but it got worse and worse, and eventually it broke through the case, and now my laptop is in 2 pieces. What a piece of junk. I'll never trust lenovo with my money again.

Overall Review: While this was under warranty: They've already told me I'm going to need to do the 1 key recovery thing to restore it back to factory default, and then, since they told me they don't actually think that'll fix any of my problems, I've got to send it in. Such a freaking hassle.

A few months after my warranty expired: The hinge broke and clearly lenovo won't do anything to help, but fortunately i might have a shot to claim the extended warranty through my credit card company.

Powerful Laptop- 6/8/2016 5:19:56 AM

Pros: I can get 75 GFLOPS out of this thing on QuikMark; without using 100% procesor power. The 860M is so awesome, Skyrim on Max 60FPS no problem. It can handle anything you throw at it. I even use it for work and it's speed has increased my productivity. Speed aside, this thing has the BEST SPEAKERS I've ever heard on a laptop. The DOLBY profile panel makes all sound jump off of your integrated OR external speakers. Super Slim and Sexy, Backlit Keyboard.

Cons: Ok. I don't like the touchpad, it needs dedicated Left Click/Right Click buttons. Also; it seems like the Wireless AC like to "power down" over time, it works fast after resetting it but an hour later all your web browsing will crawl. That may be my router though. The battery on this is not impressive, you'll be lucky to get 2-3 hours out of it just web browsing. The screen is dim, you'll need to have it maxed out 90% of the time. The graphics on this thing is weird too, I can't describe it but it's like the HD4600 is "reverse throttled" and it's like paired with the 860M they 'work together' I think. (Not SLI just, they are aware of each other) Oh, Windows 8 is horrible- immediately install Windows 7. Despite the internet, their are drivers that easily install the 860M up to FULL SPEED (10.18.10.3960). Oh, did I mention the touchpad? : ) One more thing, you cannot use an external mouse *ON* this laptop, the matte surface doesn't work well with lasers.

Overall Review: You know it's an amazing machine, all quirks aside. It's nice to play games basically at max settings. The keyboard is fine don't worry (I'm a programmer); it has decent tactile feedback. The Fn keys dont always work (touchpad on/off, airplane mode, ect). Oh, this thing will awake from sleep if you just open the lid- can't seem to fix that. I was barely affected by the lack of DVDROM, the USB drive was fine to install Win 7. SSHD gets 111Mb/sec on QuikMark, which isn't quite what I expected. Overall? BUY THIS THING! Lenovo did a great job! I <3 my Y50!

UPDATE:
Nevermind the "ownership level". I've had this thing for like 2 years; and it's a perfect laptop.
Strong, stable and well built. It never NEVER messed up on me at all. The cooling system is GREAT. It never overheats. I've never had any connector; or the screen fail. Everything is still 100%. MY ONLY GRIPE IS;
since I've taken this thing apart several times- I can see some capacitors beginning to swell! This is common in older computers; but I haven't seen it in a newer computer til this one. I can speculate this thing will STILL last for like 5 years or more. I'm totally happy with this purchase; if it wasn't for all the OTHER BAD REVIEWS, I'D BUY THE Y700!!

I'm either really lucky to get a 100% perfect Lenovo laptop, or everyone else is just really UNLUCKY. Either way I couldn't imagine this thing coming in less than a perfect form- it's even got a signature on the inside from the guy that put it together.

If you want a quality picture with this laptop, forget it 5/7/2016 8:02:44 PM

Pros: Nothing

Cons: The monitor is pretty bad. It's always been that way since day one, but I never cared enough to write a review. Now that I am out of town, I have to use it as my main computer, and half of the games are blurry and distorted. The computer itself also takes an eternity to load. Even though I have had this laptop for over a year, I have only used it for about 15-20 hours max while on vacation. Just a horrible gaming laptop, and I will never understand how anyone could write a good review about it.

Great Laptop! 5/5/2016 1:45:40 PM

Pros: Starting from the beginning.
Ordering was a breeze, without the expedited shipping I received much faster than expected which is nice coming from the fact that I live in Hawaii.
Immediately out of the box I noticed the beautiful craftsmanship of the device, sleek and professional while retaining the aesthetics that gamers love with sharp angles and good quality materials.
The laptop itself feels very sturdy and can easily be held in one hand without the bending feeling of less quality materials.
Boot up is a dream with the SSD having the OS on it.
It is more of a low to mid range gaming laptop (which is why I bought it) so it can run games well but don't expect to be running any game on Ultra at 60FPS.

Cons: Time for the bad.
Lenovo preloaded software is everywhere, I recommend deleting it from the beginning and downloading your own programs immediately, because there is a lot.
Speakers sound good, however they do not get very loud making it difficult to hear movies or music from a reasonable distance, I'm not talking about "oh I cant hear from across the room," listening from more than 3-4 feet is almost nonexistent.
The screen is terrific quality, but the viewing angles are very lackluster, which isn't an issue from directly in front, but as soon as you adjust and you go a small direction up or down, you must adjust the screen up or down.

Overall Review: I would easily recommend this product to another, however let it be known that Lenovo is notorious for its pre installed software. There are definitely better laptops on the market however this one is great for the price.

It was great and then it wasn't 4/24/2016 12:48:37 AM

Pros: Backlit Keyboard
Runs video games pretty well
Pretty thin for a gaming laptop
Speakers are pretty nice too
Sleek design
SSD

Cons: For the year and a half that I've had this laptop, I've encountered BSOD maybe around 5 times

The first problem I had with this laptop was with the headphone jack. After a few months of getting the laptop, it just died. I sent the laptop to Lenovo to have it repaired and it took about a month to get it back. It was ridiculous.

Now, I'm going to have to send the laptop in again because like a lot of users who have had this laptop, the hinges for the lid have broken. I cannot open or close the lid without risking further damage.

The trackpad is awful. I know you shouldn't use a trackpad for gaming, but sometimes you're outta luck and you gotta work with it. But with this trackpad you can forget it. Even for regular internet browsing/word processing it gets pretty annoying

Overall Review: I wouldn't recommend this laptop because it's structurally not sound. If Lenovo ever releases a newer version that's built to last, I would buy it simply because for $1000 it's such a good price for what the laptop offers
