Isn't 1gb RAM below minimum requirements for windows 8?

That may be so, but the unit runs quite well.  Just watch that you do not exhaust internal storage;  with windows,office, and little else installed, there is only about 1.5Gb of storage left.  Not much room for paging files.  Adding an SDcard does not really help as Office 365 will only install on the C: drive. Deleting the recovery partition (after copying it to an external device!) would let the C: partition be expanded by almost 5GB, but don't do it until your installation is stable - I have had to do a full recovery twice so far...

Of course.  It charges via the Micro USB port.  I don't it has a full sized USB port and that's a very good thing because adding such a thing would have adversely impacted it's sleek design.

I am not sure what you are asking?  The tablet comes with Windows 8.1 operating system pre-installed. (Most computers/tablets/phones have the operating system already installed.)  You do not pay an additional fee.

If you run java version 7 update 10 under the desktop of win 8 it will work for what you want. If you run it under the metro interface you might have a problem. BUT I am not sure what you would want to run. In my opinion you should be fine running java

Ther is no mini-HDMI port, unless it uses the mini-USB port to connect. Am I wrong? I cannot find it.

There is no port for external display.  The specification is not correct.

You may want to consider a more contemporary device;  battery performance has been poor and mine drains the battery even if on the charger.

The 16Gb storage goes down to about 4Gb available after the OS, basic apps and recovery partition are accounted for;  Windows 10 is a little better leaving 7GB available after the OS (no recovery) and allocation for dedicated virtual RAM.

I would not buy this unit again.

Question 7

The camera does not seem to work and I am wondering if it is the unit or something I am doing?  It comes up with a black screen.  It did work one day for 3 photos but once I went in to look at the pictures, it will not work again.

We bought several and gave them as gifts to our grand-kids.  We kept one and the camera was working just fine last time I used it.  Gave it to another grandchild.  So, my best guess is that there's something wrong with your unit.

Can I connect an external monitor?

Simple answer is no. Also the internal memory runs out quickly and if you add a memory card to it windows does not want to reconize it fot installing programs. It works well but is very limited .Sorry bud

Who is the touch IC manufacturer of this system?

I don't know who makes the touch system.  However, if you wanted to know the performance, it is slightly worse than the Ipad.  It is slightly laggy and if you never worked on the Ipad, you may not notice.  But I do notice and I do get frustrated with it and went back to my Ipad.  It is a nice little machine though and seems to weigh almost half of the Ipad.  It is also about 25% smaller.  For the price, its a nice little device to have around instead of booting up your windows pc.

Vulcan Electronics. Made in China. But for $100.00 it is very nice tablet. Pretty fast with nice Bluetooth keyboard, which connects very quick. I think you can not go wrong with this tablet.
