This HDMI switch comes with just the remote and box and no cables (i.e. HDMI cables ect.) right?

That's right. The power comes from your HDMI devices unless they are low power, in which case you may need to get a power adapter.

Is audio also transmitted over and through the switchbox via the HDMI cable? Or is it only transmitting video signal?

Audio and video are both transmitted over hdmi cables. This unit didn't come with a power supply, so it was useless to me. Bought a different one that came with a power supply and have been happy ever since.
