I'm a desktop person and my buddy's laptop hard drive crashed. Will this one fit in a HP Pavilion g7? I'm not entirely sure how you go about discovering which hard drives fit into laptops so I'm hoping this is an easy question.

Yes, it will fit - I bought and replaced the crashed drive in a Sony Vaio - 8 year old laptop - I expected to find ATA interface. All recent model laptops come with SATA sata III is back compatible with sata II interface. I guess the laptop is 1-3 year old model, so HDD 2.5", SATAIII will fit

Can I replace the Sam Sung HM640JJ hard drive that is currently failing in my laptop with this one?. Thanks Terry

Hi Terry, you should be able to do this.  Your old drive was a SATA 3.0 Gb/s drive and this one is a 6.0 Gb/s drive that is backward compatible.  Note that this new drive is smaller, so if you have a full drive you wish to clone, this new drive would be too small.  A clean install would be fine of course.

Will this hard drive is compatible with and will fit in my Dell Inspiron 1501?  It is an older model, bought in 2007.

Hello Shari E, I wanted to let you know that this laptop hard drive should work on your  Dell Inspiron 1501 with the standard 2.5" installation size.

Your laptop can use any Hard Drive that is smaller than 2.5" with
the proper adapters, but I would recommend to use the standard
2.5" HDD's that match the size of your computer so they do not
slip around in your computer resulting in breaking parts.

For your laptop " Dell Inspiron 1501" this WD Blue WD3200LPVX
should do the job and work very well. Now one thing that you do want to note is that since this HDD is designed for a
maximum speed of "5400" RPM's, Data to and from your
computer will be a "Tad Bit" slower than
other HDD's @ 7000RPM's

If you don't really care for speed and just want this drive for
storage on your laptop for basic use then I would recommend it.

Just know that on Newegg they do have much better HDD's
especially with the holiday sales. If you wan't a very fast HDD, I would tell you to get a SDD, which is stands for a solid state drive, which has no moving parts and loads data VERY fast, but they get kinda expensive.

THIS HARD DRIVE IS WORTH THE MONEY THOUGH, I WOULD RECOMMEND GETTING IT WHILE IT'S AVAILABLE!

I can’t tell if your serious or not, but if you are. No of course not. A hard drive would not be working for more than a minute or a without the dust cover.

Is this HD compatible with Macs?

Only with Macs that accept SATA drives like the MacBook pro or regular MacBook from a few years ago or iMacs from a few yeard ago too. This won't work on the newer macbooks, MacBook pros, or iMac as well as any AirBook.

what does "bare" mean for this disc drive?  I am trying to reinstall a win 7 oem program.

The bare drive means it will not have any supplemental software nor any sata or power cables will come with drive. You must have those on hand or purchase them separately if those are needed.

Since the hard drive is most likely going to be connected a laptop, you will not need to buy anything additional.

You will need on hand your recovery disc(s) or the Windows 7 OEM disc you mentioned to reinstall Windows 7.

I don't have a lot of experience with laptops, but I would assume a certain level of universality.  However, I also seem to recall that Dell computers used to be very proprietary.  Will this HDD fit into my Inspiron 1525?

If you have a tape measurer, measure the previous hard drive and compare them to the specifications on this page.

The biggest issue with this hard drive is the fact that it is an Advanced Format drive -- meaning you will need new chipset drivers for your laptop.  If it is an Intel laptop, you will need the Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers.  If it is an AMD laptop, just update the motherboard chipset drivers.

I'm going to be honest, you may need to try to find the exact same drive that was used in your computer previously if you aren't savvy with laptops.

Yes, this hard drive will work... Your notebook won't be able to take advantage of the SATA-III 6Gbps speed because it is a older model; SATA-II is only 3Gbps. As far as performance is concerned, a solid state hard drive would be the only alternative to increase loading of the operating system and user applications. If performance is not a concern, this drive will suffice.
