I have a gigabyte motherboard (2AC8 1.2) with a 3.80 gigahertz AMD FX-6200 Six-Core processor. I purchased at newegg the Patriot Viper 3 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model PV316G160C0K. My questions is this: did I purchase the dual channel or the quad channel, I'm assuming the memory is backward compatible? I read somewhere than amd is only dual channel, if so, I would like to make sure the memory I purchased is dual channel. I did not see a option for dual or quad channel upon checkout at newegg. Thanks.

Yes it is backwards compatible up to a certain extent and its dual channel. If you're AMD board is dual channel you'd be fine with this then unless you want more ram. and even if the ram was quad it will run at dual. hope i was some help

Home desk top Dell computer has a memory card go bad, our neighbor was kind enough to troubleshoot and find the bad board. The dell XPS model 8500 is currently running on one 4GB memory board, we would like to upgrade to 16GB if possible but also do not want to break the bank. Could you possible help. Thank you, What memory cards are compatible?

Hello LPS,

First, I want to direct you to the dell product support for your computer - the owner manual and product specs, etc. can be found there, and those are good documents to have available.

That said, DDR3 1600 is the correct RAM according to the specs for that system, and it lists 16GB as being supported, so these should work for you. The only other thing to check would be what operating system you are using, as there can be conflicts with the amount of RAM if you are on an older system, but I'm guessing you are on Win 7 or 8, so you should be fine.

I have a new hp vision amdez1800 accelerated processor but is the slowest pc i have ever used it has 4 gb ram i would like to know if this memory will work on my pc? i want to buy it if it will work,, Thank you in advance...

It will work IF your computer has a motherboard that will support the DDR3 240 pin PC3 12800 specs. Also, you can only take advantage of more than 4 GB of ram if you are running a 64 bit operation system (Windows 7 64). Otherwise, this ram will, and for me does, work very well.

How much Watts it consumes.. RAM in itself doesn't really use a whole lot of watts unless you have a small power supply and are constantly adding things then it may or may not be relevant. What you want to pay attention to is CAS latency. Basically the more CAS latency the faster it is although it may use a bit more voltage but nothing noticable from what your pc is already using.
