Great Board

ASRock X58 Supercomputer LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard
ASRock X58 Supercomputer LGA 1366 Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Plenty of slots, dual-LAN, runs stable, over-all decent board.

Cons: My biggest con for this board is the inability to connect to external hard drives. I have 2 of these motherboards, the problem is the same on both. I've tried about 7 external hard drives and they basically don't connect, BUT, after trying all of the USB ports, on the 1 board, it will connect to the left front USB (i have the same case on both systems) and on the other board none work except one port on a 7 port hub (including onboard USB). LOL, Atleast i found a port on each that function. I contacted ASRock, and they offered to replace both boards, but i can't go that long without boards, so i'll live with using a specific port for external hard drives. This isn't a problem with Flash drives or Flash media. And i get the feeling that this problem can't be just my boards. Another factor to think about is that i exclusively use Seagate drives (and have for over 10 years). If i run across another brand hard drive, i'll test that out.

Overall Review: Both my systems (work and home) are the same, ASRock Supercomputer Intel X58 ATX Intel Motherboard Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W CORSAIR XMS3 12GB 240-Pin SDRAM DDR3 1333 SAPPHIRE 100259-1GL Radeon HD 4870 1GB Seagate Barracuda ST3160215A 160GB (system) Seagate Barracuda ST31500341AS 1.5TB (data) Seagate Barracuda ST31500341AS 1.5TB (backup) Vista Ultimate I rated this board 4 eggs because i think my problem is based in this board, my Seagates work everywhere else. On a side note, i've built and troubleshot PCs and a few MACs for just over 15 years.

Not for VPN

LINKSYS BEFSX41 Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch/VPN Endpoint 10/100 (Half Duplex) 20/200 (Full Duplex) WAN Ports 10/100 (Half Duplex) 20/200 (Full Duplex) LAN Ports
LINKSYS BEFSX41 Cable/DSL Firewall Router with 4-Port Switch/VPN Endpoint 10/100 (Half Duplex) 20/200 (Full Duplex) WAN Ports 10/100 (Half Duplex) 20/200 (Full Duplex) LAN Ports

Pros: It routes

Cons: The VPN isn't stable. I knock eggs off simply because it is advertised as a VPN router, but doesn't work or i have a bad router (i updated the firmware also).

Overall Review: I have 4 RV042 running 6 VPNs. They are very stable and have been for years (the VPN literally hasn't dropped once x4). I thought i'd save a few dollars and buy the BEFSX41. It was a mistake. I've spent hours trying to get the VPN stable, it just doesn't work. I'm giving up and am going to work with the RV042 which has worked beautifully for years.

Wow

Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan
Rosewill RX-358 V2 SLV - Silver, 3.5" SATA to USB & eSATA External Enclosure with Internal 80 mm Fan

Pros: Quality, Hard Drive mounting idea, quiet (i think someone mentioned noise, this thing is pretty quiet)

Cons: i absolutely do not see any type of con

Overall Review: Until further notice, if i need a piece of hardware and Rosewill is listed with other manufacturers, i'm leaning Rosewill. I've owned many external cases over the last 13 years, this is the best i've seen. I understand completely why this case sits on top of the others in the ratings.

If you have a Pentium D, read this

Intel BOXDG45ID LGA 775 Intel G45 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel BOXDG45ID LGA 775 Intel G45 HDMI Micro ATX Intel Motherboard

Pros: Sounds like a great board

Cons: I have to poke at newegg, i've been a customer of newegg for years and have spent 1000's of dollars. I'll be a customer for many years to come. But i explained to newegg last week that Intel told me that this board DOES NOT support Pentium D processors, why does it still say that at newegg? I went through 3 of these motherboards and all appeared DOA (hours of troubleshooting), but once i talked with Intel, they told me that it is incompatible with Pentium D. The 4th motherboard is another type and supports the Pentium D. I don't have a problem with a typeO, it happens, but why hasn't someone fixed it? How many more hours of people's time is gonna be wasted troubleshooting a Pentium D with this board?

Overall Review: These reviews are my favorite part of newegg's website. These reviews have steered me in the right direction many many times. newegg posts the good and bad reviews of the products. Whether or not newegg posts a negative review of themself will show me exactly how accurately they like to keep their customers informed.

If you're thinking about this for a 1366,

ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro - Compact Multi-Compatible Tower CPU Cooler | 92 mm PWM Fan | for AMD AM4 and Intel 115x CPU | Recommended up to 115 W TDP
ARCTIC Freezer 7 Pro - Compact Multi-Compatible Tower CPU Cooler | 92 mm PWM Fan | for AMD AM4 and Intel 115x CPU | Recommended up to 115 W TDP

Pros: It is suppose to be pretty good.

Cons: A pain in the to install.

Overall Review: Well, my i7 has been running about 45 with the stock processor fan. I new i wanted to get something and ran across this "Freezer 7". First of all it was a pain trying to mount it. It does fit the 1366. I found if i took off the fan when screwing it together, was very helpful. Once i booted it, the fan itself didn't work. I'm thinking about just trying to replace the fan, because i really don't feel like tearing it all apart again, but i have to do something because my system is running 55-60 now.

I have 4 of these now

Cisco Small Business RV042 VPN Router 2 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100Mbps LAN Ports
Cisco Small Business RV042 VPN Router 2 x 10/100Mbps WAN Ports 4 x 10/100Mbps LAN Ports

Pros: Great router, easy to set up, solid VPN For the money, you can't beat it. Don't have to be certified or be a network tech to figure out how to configure it. I Intend to get the same router when the ones i have go out.

Cons: I heard that they don't handle heat well, but haven't had one fail yet. I put a fan on 2 of them. I spent some time trying to get QuickVPN to work and had no luck. My VPNs are configured router to router.

Overall Review: I have one setup with a VPN and IP phone synching into our main office, it's worked link a charm (2 years). The one at our main office, we've had for almost 4 years, works great (but i do have an external fan on it, just in case). I have one at my home with a VPN synched to the main office. Accessing files from either location works perfectly. At home i have a dynamic IP and the DynDNS.org service works great, the VPN never goes down.
