How many camera feeds can push to this hard drive?

I am a layman in such matters, especially as to "absolutes"  a lot depends on frame rate, resolution and, to some extent, on network bandwidth.  We have 16 HD cameras on each of two servers, but they use motion-sensing and trap zones, as well as lower frame rates and short recording cycles (once motion ceases) to allow all 16 to operate.  We still have some bottlenecks, though my tech advises it is partly due to the servers in the system when there is very high traffic on many cameras.  I don't think this answers your question directly, but hopefully it alerts you to the fact that there are many factors that come into play here, so  I hope it helps a bit.

Is it really beneficial to buy a surveillance drive when recording live video. It seems the 5400 rpm is a tradeoff, and calling it surveillance is a way to justify a cheaper drive?  It their solid engineering behind this classification?

They call it surveillance because that's what it was designed for rather than a marketing gimmick. Designed to write 180 TB/year 24/7 and record 64 streams at once (but only playback one = faster-than-average writes but slower-than-average reads).  You don't need 7200 rpm or maxed out transfer rates to achieve this when that just needlessly drives up costs if all you want is dvr storage , so it's not the best use to install it as a boot drive, though it will work as such with sub-par performance if nothing else better is on hand. Personally I use them for cold storage on a bookshelf of downloaded movies and tv shows (ie might see 100 hours a year of use and possibly less each on average since I have hundreds of them = HDD's generally last decades for that purpose, just recently retired an 80GB Maxtor from 2000 that was still working, just too small for the bookshelf footprint and have no room for another bookshelf). These are quite reliable for that purpose (never had an "infant mortality" where the drive died while being formatted and filled in the first month).

What is a 3-year limited warranty?

If the hard drive fails due to manufacturing defect Western Digital will replace it during the warranty. If it is damaged by you by dropping it or if he gets wet or something outside of the manufactures control then they will not cover it. I hope that helps
