Yes this is basically how we use it, but its connected to a server and used for daily backups.

I want to pull my drives out of my "WD Cloud EX2 Ultra" and use them in this enclosure so I can use them as external storage and not deal with the limitations of the NAS enclosure. Anyone with experience with this?

I have an older version of WD cloud and basically did this. You just pull the drives out remove the mounting screws, add the new screws for the QNAP, stick it in, reformat and set the raid you want and your done.
