I live inside the city and the different stations are in different directions from me.  Will this be a good choice of antenna that isn't too excessively directional?

Mine works great but the stations are not 180 degrees apart. However they are within 60 degrees. Perfect HD too and a quality product.

Question 2

will this work with the old TV as well as the new HD  TV. Also dose it use the same cable wire?

All antennas are simply a receiver. There is no real technology difference between a HD antenna, a digital antenna, and old school rabbit ears. They will all pull in SD and HD signals. Heck a wire coat hanger connected to your antenna port will still pull in both SD and HD TV signals. You can even use the cableTV Co-Axial wiring in your wall as an antenna. The benefit to using a roof mounted antenna such as this is that you will be able to receive signals from much farther away then any smaller antenna.  These can also be mounted in your attic if you don't want to mount it on your roof.

IS THIS YOUR BEST OUTDOOR ANTENNA?

This antenna was installed in an attic and was able to pick up every Chanel from the Atlanta stations (between 20-30 miles away).  We did pair it with a good signal booster (Motorola BDS4) which is crucial if you are using more than 1 tv.  Very please with this antenna
