What do I need to buy for this so I can use it immediately?

All you need are the appropriate number of cables.  My setup uses one set of RCA cables to connect the Switch to my TV.  To connect my VCR, Blu-Ray, and Nintendo Wii to the Switch, I use the RCA cables that came with each device.

Question 2

What is output 2 used for ? It is not mentioned directly in any manuals found for product.

The model I have is similar but has mechanical selector push button switches, no remote and no DC power input. It does have the OUTPUT 2 on the front of switch box.  Output 2 is an audio output and has a standard headphone jack.
