Hi, I live overseas and we use 220V. I see in the specs that this is rated at 120V. However I've found that sometimes the printed specs are not so accurate. would someone please look on the back of the plugin part and see if this will also work on 220V? Thanks very much.

Does it  display amps, Hz, Rf volts, watts?

If you want to figure out how many Amps the device or appliance you have hooked up to this meter is using, you can just divide the Watts by 120 and that will give you Amps.  Example, if you have your refrigerator hooked up to this meter, and the meters display shows that the refrigerator is using 200 Watts, then that would be 1.7 Amps (200 divided by 120 = 1.7).  Or let's say that you hook your big screen TV to the meter and it shows that the TV is using 500 Watts.  Then that would mean the TV is drawing 4.2 Amps (500 divided by 120 = 4.2)  Knowing what the amperage draw is on a single circuit in your home is very useful.  Most homes in the USA use 15 and 20 Amp breakers in their electrical panel.  If you can figure out how many Amps you are drawing from all your devices/appliances that are on one circuit, you can determine if you need to move some devices/appliances to other circuits if you are constantly tripping a circuit breaker.  Or you can determine if it is best to have a new circuit run for a high draw appliance or device.

What precision does this display watts, i.e., how many digits (if any) after the decimal point?

A tenth of a watt, if less than 100W. At over 100W, it only displays even watts (no decimal point).

Is the electricity rate from which the cost is calculated by adjustable?

Yes the manual describes how to set your utility's rate. however this must be reset every time you unplug the unit

Has anyone measured how much power the device itself uses?  I'm wondering because of the comments about bright LEDs.

About one watt.  After asking the question, I bought this and checked.  A milliammeter measured 9.5 ma, or about 1.1 watts, with no load.  Plugging in a light load, the added load for the meter dropped to 0.8 watts.  Removing the LED (an easy, reversible wire snip) lowered the consumption by only 5%.  The relay uses about 20% of the power consumption (except when it's set to be off).

What is the maximum count down time for the on/off timer?  And, what is the minimum increment of time that can be used?

yes it it is 1 to 24 hours. no minutes. so the smallest increment would be 1 hour. not exactly good for a timer and if you have any math history a waste of money for figuring consumption. i would not recommend.

What is it used for?  Monitoring the use of just 1 item?

Yes, a single item (or power strip full of items). Plug it in, and see the instantaneous load. Do you want to know how much power your computer uses at idle? When playing Call of Duty?

Or plug it in and wait 24 hours to get an idea of the average power usage. This is great if you want to know if its time to replace your fridge with a more energy efficient model.

I discovered that my laser printer was drawing a $1/mo of electricity just sitting at idle (even with no LEDs active or fans running). Now I turn it off when I'm not using it. This information alone was enough to pay for my meter in two years.

Question 10

If power is interrupted to the device, is the cumulative power consumption value retained? Also, when plugged into a std. duplex outlet, is the other outlet free for use? How long is the interconnect cable?  I have a Kill-A-Watt and a Kill-A-Watt EZ: The EZ preserves stats across power interruptions, but still suffers from the problem of blocking both outlets when plugged in.

When I unplugged the device, all power consumption values reset to zero when I plugged it back in.

The device does not block the bottom wall outlet when you plug it into the top outlet.

The wire is about a meter long.
